Happy Baby Review & Giveaway...

Like all Moms I put a lot of thought into what my children eat.   I want them to eat healthy things (at least most of the time!) and things that are made from wholesome ingredients.  When I heard about Happy Baby I knew I would be on the right track with my goal!  Happy Baby is the leading brand in premium baby and toddler meals in the US selling it's organic foods in over 5000 stores.  Happy Baby even works with noted pediatrician Dr. Sears to ensure their foods are optimally nutritious for your little diner!  I just had to give this stuff a try.

I set out to have the kids try a wide variety of Happy Baby items and my kiddo's were happy to oblige.  First on the list?  Yes Peas and Thank You Carrots (how cute is that name??).  Baby R gobbled both right up happily.  The carrots are just that carrots...nothing else which I just love.  The peas are flavored with a touch of  mint which is known to ease some colic symptoms.  So, with the frozen Baby Purees you are feeding your baby nothing but the organic fruits and veggies you want them to eat.  No yucky additives you can't pronounce here!  Next on my list?  The Happy Bellies Organic Multi Grain Cereal.  I mixed this in with Baby R's apple sauce and I am not sure she noticed the difference from her other baby cereal but I sure did.  First off the cereal was organic which is great but it also contains probiotics and DHA for brain and eye development.  This is not  your average baby cereal!

My final testing on Baby R was "snacky" stuff. She has just started with finger food in the past month and she really, really loves her snacks.  She tried the Happy Puffs first and she really liked those in both the banana and the greens flavors.  I tried one too and though they are less sweet than the other puffs on the market I don't think this is a bad thing at all.  They have 1/2 the sugar of other leading brands and are sweetened with fruit juice.  They were still flavorful and melted in your mouth quickly.  They are also a little less "bulky" than other puffs which gave me some extra comfort about the choking factor.  My 3.5 year old sons actually swiped most of the banana puffs from Baby R so they are a hit with the older set too!  Also a hit with my sons were the Happy Melts Organic Yogurt Snacks.  These fruit snacks are delicious...OK, OK, I swiped lots of these from my kids.  I couldn't help myself!  These little snacks melt right in your little one's  mouth and have live active cultures for their digestive health.  They also come in yummy flavors like mixed berry and banana mango....yum!

I also had my sons, A&W, try out some of the Happy Bites.  Happy Bites are the frozen, convenience foods kids love but with a twist...hidden veggies!  You will find chicken bites, mac and cheese and salmon sticks in kid friendly sizes that are packed with all kinds of goodness.  These are not your typical tator tots and nuggets!  A&W really enjoyed the salmon sticks and those will be a "go-to" quick lunch for me to have on hand for sure.  A was more into the chicken bites than W.  W is a little sensitive about textures and the nuggets were more of a creamy texture than he would like...other than that a hit all around!

Something I really love about the Happy Baby Company that I love (even beyond them creating healthy and convenient foods for my kiddos) is that they are making a difference in our world.  For every package of Happy Baby you buy they, through Project Peanut Butter, feed one hungry child in Malawi and Sierra Leone for an entire day.  Now that is something you can feel good about!  Read more about Project Peanut Butter here.

Something else you can feel good about is the fabulous prize Happy Baby is giving one lucky Reviewed By Mom reader.  One reader will win the following...

2 free trial coupons for each of these products: HAPPYBABY, HAPPYBELLIES, HAPPYBABYPUFFS, HAPPYMELTS, HAPPYBITES

1 FAQ on Probiotics & DHA
1 Nutrition Guide, co-authored by Dr. Sears

Great prize, right?  Lots of yummy things for the kiddos plus some great recipes and nutritional guides.  Everything a mom needs to fill those bellies and feel good about it.  Here is how to win...

Sid The Science Kid Gotta Know Microphone.....

I think most people with a pre-schooler are probably pretty familiar with Sid the Science Kid.  Sid is the inquisitive little guy on PBS who "wants to know why things happen and how".  It is an adorable show that uses great songs to teach kiddos about science.  My guys like watching Sid and finding out about the science of things while having some laughs along the way.   Sid is never without his trusty microphone which he sings into and uses to ask his many questions.  For those of you without pre-schooler just an FYI....microphones are super cool for this age group!  I like Sid because it is a show the kids enjoy coupled with learning.  Sid the Science Kid has earned high recognition for children's programming such as 4 Daytime Emmy Awards and a Parent's Choice Recommendation.  You don't have to feel guilty for turning on a little Sid!

I was sent the Sid The Science Kid Gotta Know Microphone to review and I let the boys take the reigns on this one.  The moment they saw the box containing the microphone excitement was the name of the game.  I could not get it out of the box fast enough!  Right away they noticed it was the same microphone Sid uses and they could not wait to test it out.  Here are a few specifics of the Sid The Science Kid Gotta Know Microphone...

Product Features

-Electronic microphone, modeled after the one in the television series

-Lets kids tell jokes, interview and sing with its laughter, applause, theme song and echo features

-Explore your world with an electronic microphone just like the Sid the Science Kid character’s on the animated television series

-Fun push-button features let you create applause noise after you've interviewed someone, laughter noise when you've told a joke

-For extra fun, set it to echo mode and listen to your voice echo echo everywhere you go

-Even the Sid the Science Kid series theme song and silly sounds when you're ready to sing

Every one of these fun options got my 3.5 year olds excited.  When they pushed the button that sings the Sid theme song they started to sing along into the microphone...it was adorable.  Even Baby R got a kick out of the silly sounds and would chuckle each time her brothers would push that button.  I think the favorite feature with my boys was the "echo mode".  Echo mode allows you to speak into the microphone and have your voice echo back at you...just like you are in some deep, dark cave...my guys love this!  Last night every time they replied to a question it was in "echo mode"!  I am expecting the same from today and am already thinking I may need a second microphone so both my budding Sids can echo at me at the same time!

This is a great toy that my kids enjoy.  It is easy to use with buttons that are just right for small hands.  It is recommended for ages 3-6 and I think this is right on.  It uses 3AAA batteries to make all these wonderful sounds and echos.  It is made by Hasbro which, from my experience, makes a durable toy that lasts.

The Sid The Science Kid Gotta Know Microphone is in stores now so pick one up for your favorite scientist.  You can check it out here...

All Play Family Entertainment Center...

I have three children under 4 years old.  I need to get out of the house every day.  Some people may think this is crazy but it is just the opposite...if we stay home all day all four of us go a little crazy.  So, on most days we all pack it up and head out for some sort of excursion.  There is not a ton out there to choose from for indoor outings for younger children so I was absolutely thrilled when All Play Family Entertainment Center opened up nearby.

All Play is the ultimate place to take your child to burn off energy.  What will you find at All Play?  Bounce houses and slides (lots of them), miniature golf, a jousting arena and a separate area just for babies and toddlers filled with things to crawl over, under and on.  What won't you find at All Play?  Arcade games of any kind.  Love it!  We have been to the "typical" arcade type places around town and I was ready for something more active for the kids...All Play is it!

On a recent trip to All Play the boys jumped around for 3 hours....yes, three hours and I actually had to bargain with them to leave!  There are so many different bouncy houses and slides to choose from that they were entertained the entire time.  We also played miniature golf while we were there (a first for the boys!) and they loved it.  What a great way to spend the day!   Baby R was not left out of the fun either...she spent time in the baby ball pit and crawling around all sorts of soft blocks and ramps.  It was fantastic.  I also can't say enough about how CLEAN the facility is.  From the floors to the bathrooms this place is sparkling...I did not have that "oh, gross" feeling wash over me one time while I was there and let me tell you that is saying a lot.  Ball pits alone usually illicit high anxiety in me but not here...it was super clean and there were plenty of stations for hand sanitizing.

Here are some details about pricing and hours taken from All Plays website...

Monday - Thursday - Discount Pricing                                Friday - Sunday Regular Rates
Bounce Zone $7.00                                                                 Bounce Zone $10
The Playroom (5 and Under Area) $5.00                              The Playroom (5 and Under Area) $5
Bounce Zone/The Playroom $8                                              Bounce Zone/The Playroom $11
Bounce Zone/Bounce Zone Plus $11                                      Bounce Zone/Bounce Zone Plus $14

Ultimate Use (includes mini golf) $13.00                              Ultimate Use $16

Beginning on June 7th we will begin operating under what we refer to as a Rainy Day Schedule. Unfortunately there have been delays in getting our Splash Zone (wet slides) area open with the City of Westbrook. So these hours will be in effect until we are are able to resolve the issues. This explains our need to go to the "Rainy Day" schedule for Monday - Thursdays.

Monday - Thursday - We will post Daily by 9:00 am whether we will be open to public or not.

Friday - Saturday: 10:00 - 7:00

Sunday: 10:00 - 6:00

Note that All Play is working with the city in hopes of getting their water slides open for this Summer so be she to keep checking in  about those!
As you can see there are tons of different options based on  the ages of your children.  What I really love is that there is no time limit.  If your little bundle of energy wants to bounce for 8 hours on a Sunday he/she can go for it....all for under $20.  Not bad if you ask me!  All Play also hosts birthday parties which is definitely something I am keeping in mind for the boys this fall.  Right now they are even running a summer special of a $110 flat rate for a maximum of 10 children...this includes 1 hour of bouncing followed by 1 hour in the party room with pizza, drinks, chips and an ice cream sandwich for each child.  Call (207) 899-1446 to reserve your party date now....the kids will love it and you will love not having to clean your house after being invaded by ten 8 year olds on a sugar high!

The kids and I give All Play the big thumbs up all around.  It is good, clean, physically active fun for your kids to enjoy...what is not to love about that?!  Visit All Play at http://www.allplaycenter.com/ for more details or call (207) 899-1446 for more information.

I am excited to say that All Play is generously awarding one lucky Reviewed By Mom reader 2 General Admission passes (includes the Bounce Zone area only but you can add the "extras" for a small fee)!  Woo-hoo! Burn that energy kiddos!  Here is how to enter...

Izola Shower Review & Giveaway...

My upstairs bathroom needs an update....in a big way.  When we moved into our home 11 years ago it was the first room we redid and now after tackling all the other rooms in our home, it is time to start over again!  Luckily, my need to spruce up coincided with my discovery of IZOLA Shower.  IZOLA Shower has a great selection of unique shower curtains that were just the ticket to jazz up my poor, outdated bathroom.

IZOLA Shower (http://www.izolashower.com/) has a shower curtain for every style and budget.  There are some beautiful cotton shower curtains but the ones that really caught my eye were the Eco-Friendly ones.  Izola's shower curtains are made from PEVA which is a durable, biodegradable vinyl option....good news for the environment!!  The designs are so much fun and completely unique which I love.  IZOLA considers the shower curtain a "blank canvas" to showcase "sophisticated designs that incorporate the work of  groundbreaking artists, bold patterns, and iconic global destinations".  No more blah shower curtains here!

There are world destination shower curtains which feature places like Las Vegas, Paris and Venice.  Patterns that are whimsical and have feathers, barber shop tools and tiny Buddha's.  There is a Map section where you will find shower curtains featuring the New York Subway system, California, the Boston Transit and many more.  The Artist Series even has a selection of shower curtains designed by featured artists.  I don't know about you but I know my last shower curtain was probably not designed by a renowned artist!  Here are just a sampling of the designs...

The people of IZOLA generously sent me one of their shower curtains to review and my sorry bathroom is now far more snazzy with the Homebound Shower Curtain.  My new shower curtain is so much fun...I am working toward a nautical theme for our redesign and this is perfect.  The design features anchors, old fashioned ships and all things classically nautical.  It is a great addition and I am very happy with it!  It wipes clean and is the standard 72x72 and is made of the Eco-friendly PEVA.  It was designed by Rika Shimada who is a successful artist in NY....my shower curtain is a work of art!

I am happy to tell you that IZOLA Shower has offered one Reviewed By Mom reader a brand new shower curtain...you too can snazz up your bathroom!   One winner will receive their choice of shower curtain from the Map, Destination or Pattern category.  Here is how to enter....

Mandatory Entry:  Visit IZOLA Shower and tell me which shower curtain you would choose if you win.

Flashback Friday...Stroll'r Swivel'rs

I use my stroller a lot.  Having three young children makes shopping carts pretty inconvenient so I often pile the kids into the stroller and make do.  While this is great for the pocketbook (how much can you REALLY pile on your kids in a stroller without looking unfit??) it is often frustrating when you have more than a couple of things to grab.  I was very excited when I discovered Stroll'r Swivel'rs a couple of years back and have been a loyal user ever since.

Stroll'r Swivel'rs are hooks that attach to your stroller allowing you to hang your purse/diaper bag/shopping bags from the handle.  I often bring recyclable shopping bags into the store, fill them up as I go and then have the bagger load my purchase right back into it.  I leave one or two swivel'rs on my stroller at all times.  I have used the Stroll'r Swivel'rs on several different strollers (standard and jogger styles) and the hook has fit easily onto the handles.  I will say that the plastic can only hold so much so don't get over zealous like I have a couple of times.  I once loaded my twins (when they were babies) into a double stroller, walked to the grocery store and proceeded to hang 2 heavy recyclable bags from one plastic Stroll'r Swivel'r.  Picture one disheveled Mom pushing two squalling babies a 1/2 mile home while dragging two heavy grocery bags...not pretty and a lesson learned.  Plastic, even the durable kind, can only take so much abuse!

I suggest grabbing couple of packs of Stroll'r Swivel'rs (they come in a 2 pack) and stashing one in your car, one in your purse and leaving a couple on your stroller.  You will be prepared when you have that sudden need to shop and are not capable of growing that extra set of hands we moms all need!

Muncha, Muncha, Muncha by Candace Fleming...

This year our family planted our first vegetable garden.  The process of the planting was great fun for the boys although I am not sure how successful our venture is going to be...only half the garden has sprouted thus far!  I think part of the appeal of gardening for the kids (besides the messy fun of course!) was due to a couple of their favorite books.  Mystery Vine by Cathryn Falwell which I reviewed back in February and Muncha, Muncha, Muncha by Candace Fleming are big favorites with my boys.

Muncha, Muncha, Muncha is the story of a very determined gardener, Mr. McGreely, and some even more determined little bunnies.  Mr. McGreely builds his dream garden but in the night, three little bunnies sneak in, "tippy-tippy-tippy-pat, Muncha-Muncha-Muncha"!.  The bunnies gobble up all of the gardener's vegetables.  The furious Mr. McGreely first builds a wire fence, a wooden fence, then a moat and finally a great cinder block wall but each time those bunnies find a way in.  There are great sound effects in this book demonstrating the sounds of the bunnies sneaking into the garden and it makes for a fun read.  My boys love to recite parts right along with me.  This is a great book for this time of the year and is a super fun read.  It is recommended for ages 3-7 and I think this is pretty accurate although it may even have a bit more staying power than that.

I was doing a little research on the author, Candace Fleming, and paid a visit to her website http://www.candacefleming.com/.  There I found not only some of her other titles but some great ideas for crafts, songs and activities to go along with Muncha, Muncha, Muncha....what a great resource!  You can buy Muncha, Muncha, Muncha at Amazon or be sure to check it out next time you are at the library...it is a great read!

Willow Bedding by Kidsline...

When I was pregnant with my daughter my husband and I decided to not find out the gender.  We were both excited to be surprised but I was a little less excited about decorating the nursery when I saw how little there was out there that was gender neutral.  I knew I wanted something soothing and not heavy on the characters but what I found was decidedly pink or blue.  After lots of looking I finally found a set that was exactly what I wanted....Willow by Kidsline.  This is exactly what I wanted for our nursery.

The color palette is a nice light, sage green with chocolate brown and cream.  Forest creatures line the border but not overly much so.  The deer, squirrels and birds are simply done and are just the right amount of "cuteness".  I also think this set is truly gender neutral.  It is nice for my daughter but would have worked out completely for a boy.  I have also been very impressed with the quality.  The set is made of a nice, soft, organic cotton that has held up very well so far.  I can also speak about the quality of Kidsline....we had the Zanzibar set for the twins and it looked brand new after 3 years of use!

The four piece bedding set includes the quilt, bumpers, sheet and dust ruffle.  There are quite a few other accessories to choose from that are sold separately.  One "sort of" downside is that the bumper is quite plush.  Now that my daughter is standing up in the crib I have taken it out because I am afraid she will stand on it and climb out.  I use a portion of the bumper now as a  pillow for our rocker.

So, after much searching I finally find the  perfect (for me!) gender neutral bedding.  I am going to add some pink owls to the motif and I think they will add the perfect amount of "girliness" to Baby R's room.  Stay tuned for updates on my search for the perfect pink owls!

Boogie Wipes Review & Giveaway...

Being a parent is messy business.  Nobody ever really comes out and says  that on some days you will wish you had a hazmat suit but you will.  Luckily our little darlings make parenthood more appealing in other areas (think angelic little sleepers, fresh from the bath smells and macaroni necklaces).  For those areas where the "ew" factor is high we have to grin and bear it or else find something that makes the yuck less yucky.  One such something tackles boogers.  Yes, you heard me right...boogers.

I have recently become acquainted with official booger fighters....Boogie Wipes.  Boogie wipes are wipes made with saline to quickly, gently and effectively remove those pesky dried on boogies.  Gross made less so....I like it!  In all seriousness though, it is nice to have something soft to wipe those red, tender noses.  Boogie Wipes come in scented varieties too...how cool is that?  It is a little easier to coax a good nose wipe when it smells like grapes!  I tried these out on the boys and, while I still had to wrestle them down, it was far easier to wipe their noses and it was not nearly as rough as using a tissue.  Boogie Wipes also come in scented varieties which is pretty enticing for the younger set.  It definitely helped lure my kids over a little more quickly!  This product is not only effective but a lot of fun.  How cool is it to whip a pack of "Boogie Wipes" out of your diaper bag??  You know you will giggle every time you see the name...I know I have!  Be sure to go to Boogiewipes.com to order a pack of our very own.

The generous people of Boogie Wipes  are awarding one Reviewed By Mom winner 2 packs of Boogie Wipes of their very own.  Now you too can make those nose wipes a little easier and your diaper bag a little cooler!  Here is how to win...

EcoMom Review & Giveaway...

I recently became aware of a fabulous site called EcoMom.  EcoMom is committed to making eco-conscious living easy, affordable, and rewarding for families.  This website has it all....from food to toys to books to clothing to bath and body and more.  If it is eco-friendly you will find it on EcoMom!  I could browse (and buy!) on that site all day.  EcoMom has recently made it even more appealing to shop with them by introducing the EcoPass program.  The EcoPass allows members to receive a 15% discount on every order, free shipping (with no minimum order amount) as well as exclusive offers and promotions.  The annual membership fee is $99 for the EcoPass.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to try out two of the brands EcoMom carries, Plum Organics and Revolution Foods.  More accurately I should say my three favorite food critics got to do some serious taste testing!  First I let Baby R's taste buds get working.  She tried out the Plum Organic Baby Food Pouches.  Have you seen these nifty little packages??  They are pouches filled with organic baby food which have twist off caps that are just perfect for on the go.

Baby R has so far tried out the Just Peaches, Just Pears and the Pumpkin & Banana flavors and they all received a big gummy grin from her.  I gave them a taste test too and they were really good....fresh tasting and something I felt good about feeding her.  I like to make my own food for her when I can but these packs are a great supplement and you can't beat the convenience factor.  Do yourself a favor and buy one of the special Boon Spoons.  These little spoons attach right to the Plum pouches and, with a little squeeze to the pouch, the food is dispensed right onto the spoon.  Clever!
The boys also got into the taste testing fun when they got to try some of Revolution Foods tasty treats.  Revolution Foods is focused on getting healthy snacks into lunch boxes which is something I wholeheartedly support.  Convenience is huge but so is being healthy so I am always happy when the two meet!  The boys tried the Organic Mashups which are unsweetened squeezable fruit.  These were big favorites with the boys.
The boys also enjoyed the Jammy Sammy.  These are snack sized peanut butter and jelly sandwich bars.  I also snagged one of these for myself and, Yum!

Both Revolution Foods and Plum Organics get high marks from me for being healthy AND convenient.  They get high marks from the kids for tasting delicious!

I am excited to say that EcoMom is giving Reviewed By Mom's readers 15% off their first order at www.ecomom.com.  Simply enter discount code SBBL409 between now and June 30, 2010.  Thanks, EcoMom!

Flashback Friday...Fisher-Price Trios...

Ahhh....still love the Trios around here!  Read on for a flashback on why we love them so...

My three year olds love to build and create which was why I was super excited to check out the new offering from Fisher Price...Trios.  Trios are reminiscent of the "Tinker Toys" I remember as a kid only these are geared toward younger children so there are none of those pesky (and dangerous!!) wooden sticks.

Trios are brightly colored plastic squares, sticks and panels that are easy to click together, even for small pre-schooler hands.  Each of the sets we have includes a booklet with building ideas but my guys have the most fun creating their own designs.  Just this morning the Trios morphed into ships, sky scrapers and fire extinguishers...not bad for a single toy!

I think Trios are such a big hit here because of the bright colors which are pleasing to the eye as well as the ease of use.  Some of the other building blocks/sets out there are a bit too challenging for little hands to maneuver but Trios easily clip together.  We currently have the Building Set as well as a couple of the basic sets and I still think my guys would like more to add to their collection.  Fisher Price recommends Trios for ages 3-5 years but I can see Trios having even more staying power than that...at least at our house!  One word of caution though...the Trio squares are fairly small (slight larger than dice) so if you have a kid who is a "mouther" be on the alert.  Fisher Price Trios earns an "A" rating from me for the basic building sets we own.

The Cat in the Hat & Other Dr. Seuss Favorites (audio book)...

The other day the kids and I borrowed the most wonderful audio book from the library...The Cat in the Hat & Other Dr. Seuss Favorites.  It is absolutely the best to listen to when you are on the road.  It is all your favorite Dr. Seuss books read by some of your very favorite voices.  Kelsey Grammar reads The Cat in the Hat, Ted Danson reads The Lorax and Walter Matthau does How the Grinch Stole Christmas beautifully.  I would have to say that my personal favorite is Dustin Hoffman reading Horton Hears a Who.  His voice changes with every character and he really captures the feel of the book.  I was actually tearing up when he read "a person's a person no matter how small"!  Maybe I was a little too involved in the story and should have been more focused on the traffic!  The boys were also captivated and were listening and laughing away during our drive.

This 2 disc set includes 9 popular Dr. Seuss reads, the ones I mentioned above plus:  Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, Yertle the Turtle, Horton Hatches the Egg and Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose.  They are just such great books read by some fantastic voices....it will definitely make your car ride more enjoyable.  In fact, they are so enjoyable that even though all three of my children were lulled to sleep by the car ride, I continued to listen on!  I am also excited that all the stories are unabridged so the kids can follow along with the book as well.

Love, love, love this audio book and would recommend it for any Dr. Seuss fan (is anyone not a Dr. Seuss fan??).  Borrow a copy from your library or pick one up here...

Picky Sticky Review & Giveaway...

I love to take pictures.  I am certain my children refer to me as the "mamarazzi" behind my back even now and I am sure I will embarrass them later in life with tub pictures....I can't help myself!  Even though life is super busy now with 3 I still take tons of pictures.  The pictures I get of the boys are pretty much blurs running by but Baby R is still subject to my monthly photo sessions to document her changes.  I have been taking her pictures each month in a white onesie and, my how she has grown, but my, how boring a white onesie is.   Enter my new favorite baby shower gift...Picky Sticky Decals.

Picky Sticky decals are packets of stickers depicting milestone numbers in adorable colors and prints.  I am using "pinky dinky" on Baby R and the packet includes months 0-12.  The sticker is simply placed upon a plain t-shirt or onesie and lets the world know just how old your little prince or princess is.  I love, love, love this idea.  Each sticker is 4" in diameter and is transparent so it looks like it is part of the shirt.  Genius!  It went on easily AND stayed one even with this little wiggle worm for a photo subject...
Cute, right??  No more guess work on ages...it is right on the shirt!  No more torn paper signs you try and get your little paper eater to hold onto each month either!  There are many designs to choose from for girls and boys.  There are even sets for pregnant bellies too...

I wish I'd had these when I was pregnant...what an adorable way to document your pregnancy!  There are sets for years as well (1-12) so you can have a whole matching set of pictures.  You have to check these sets out...every mom and mom-to-be needs them for her favorite models.  See them all at http://www.pickysticky.com/ or visit Picky Sticky on Facebook for up to the minute company news .

So, not only did the fabulous people at Picky Sticky give me a packet to try out on Baby R but they are giving one lucky reader a choice of Picky Sticky's of their own...fabulous!  You can choose from any of the styles on their website.  Here is how to enter...

Matchbox Pop Up Mini Playset...Car Wash

My boys, A&W , love playing cars.  We have more Matchbox cars than I could put a number on and my guys love to play with them all.  We do not have much as far as the accessories go which is fine by me because it lets their imaginations take over (shoe box as garage anyone??) but I could not resist the idea of the Pop Up Mini Play Sets.  I wish I had resisted.  I really, really wish I had resisted!

These play sets are meant to fold up for portability making them fun for on the go.  Not really.  Not for on the go OR at home.  They are small, about the size of a sandwich when folded, but they open up to a 90 degree angle "revealing a world of fun and excitement".  There are two teeny, tiny levels for  playing and each set comes with a car and a few accessories. I like the idea of this toy but it just does not translate well.  Such a small space does not make for much play room and the design just seems awkward.  We have the car wash which comes with little roller sponges and a water tank to fill with real water.  The tank is small...I am talking holds a tablespoon or two of water and the hole to fill it is super small.  Each time the play sets come out I can be prepared for one of two things:

1.  "MOM!!  Please get me more water!"  At least 25 times with the boys getting more aggravated each time they ask because it is no fun to stop playing when you run out of water every 30 seconds.
2.  Sneaky water missions.  You can use your imagination but two 3 year olds trying to fill up an itty-bitty tank full of water from the bathroom sink is far messier than one would think.

Can you tell I am a fan??  Another thing I don't love is that it is hard to fold back up and close especially for little hands.  I really like Matchbox in general, just not this toy.  I think they missed the boat on this one.  I would recommend hauling those cars and trucks outside to play construction or turning your kitchen sink into a car wash....much more satisfying than these little sets.

Honey Pie Accessories Bib Clip Review & Giveaway...

A couple of weeks ago I entered a contest to win a Bib Clip from Honey Pie Accessories.  I was really hoping to win because I thought the idea of a bib clip was so handy and the prints are just so cute!  Well, that hoping paid off because I actually won (going to hope for the lottery next!).

As I have mentioned, Baby R is right in the thick of solid foods which means bibs must be on hand at all times if I want to salvage her cute little outfits.  The bib clip enables you to turn any napkin (or anything, really) into a bib when you don't have the real thing handy.  I used it the other day in a restaurant with R's burp cloth and it was a lifesaver!  The handy clip kept the burp cloth in place, keeping pureed carrots from spoiling her clothes. The bib clip now permanently resides in my diaper bag and I am going to buy a few more to have on hand.  The bib clip is hand sewn onto suspender clips and made of grosgrain ribbon.  I have an adorable green and pink ribbon print but all the designs are just so cute.  They are well made too and a real buy at $4 each.

Honey Pie Accessories has the cutest baby and kid things you can imagine.  Hair bows, burpies, wipe cases and even Tutu's!!  Many of the items are custom made which I think is a huge plus.  Check out Honey Pie Accessories store here...http://www.honeypieaccessories.webs.com/.  When Baby R grows a bit more hair I am going to order her some of the lady bug clippies...so cute!

Honey Pie Accessories has agreed to give one lucky Reviewed By Mom reader one of their handy bib clips as well as a coordinating burpie.  You don't want to miss the chance to win one of these adorable sets....

To Enter (this one is mandatory): Leave a comment at the end of this post telling me

which of these cute sets (blue or pink) you would choose if you won.

Flashback Friday...Kiddopatumus Swaddle Me

Before I had children I thought some things just "came" to you when you became a mother...breastfeeding, swaddling, multi-tasking.  Hmmm....not so much or so easily.  The breastfeeding part came along.  I am now a master multi-tasker.  Three kids later I still can't swaddle a baby to save my life.  Time and time again I watched the nurses, my mother, my mother-in-law, even my husband wrap my babies up all tight like a little burrito.  When I tried my hand at it this there was no burrito effect...something more like a taco, actually which is not nearly as effective.

Well, now, fellow swaddling flunkies, here is the answer to your prayers.  The Kiddopatumus SwaddleMe blanket.  This ingenious invention takes all the pesky guesswork out of which edge to fold up and over and allows you to get a perfect little burrito every time!  This little pouch with "wings" allows you to pop the baby in, swaddle the baby in the wings (which are secured with velcro) guaranteeing a perfect swaddle each time.  The wings are adjustable allowing  you to control the snugness.  Another great feature is that you can release the legs for diaper changes without disturbing the baby who is cozily swaddled.

Studies show that babies who are swaddled feel more secure allowing for better sleep and the SwaddleMe insures that you get it right every time...even after those 3 am feedings!  I say go out and buy a few of these for every mom-to-be on your list! "A"!

Sandbox Scientist by Michael Ross...

As a mom, I am always looking for ways to keep my children happy and engaged.  I obviously know how to play with my kiddos (this Mama is a pro at playing a firefighter and a kitty) but I love to find new ideas and games which is why I grabbed Sandbox Scientist by Michael Ross.

Now, let me say, I am no science guru...not even close.  I do however want to encourage my three children to take an interest in science and to have a curiosity for what makes things work.  Sandbox Scientist is a fabulous little book with fun ideas to make everyday play more interesting.  The book is broken up into sections with different kinds of play/experiments to try out.  There are sections titled Mechanics, Building, Kitchen Experiments, Earth and other Matter (definitely a favorite around here!), Light, Water and even a section on Little Critters (not my fave but one my kiddos will by way into I am sure).

Many of the experiments are simply extensions of play in which your child already engages.  When your little one is digging around in the mud give her or him some tools (paint brushes, cookie cutters, spatulas etc) to make different shapes and add some water to the mix and talk about changing textures.  Yes, it is messy but it is a fun learning experience your child will appreciate.  In the kitchen set your  child up at the table with a bowl and and some mixing spoons along with some ingredients to make potions (vinegar and baking soda create a reaction) kids love to get their hands on your kitchen tools and it lends a lesson on textures and solutions.  In this book there are instructions on how to make your own play sailboat, a recipe for "color goop" and instructions on how to catch and care for a snail (or a lady bug, grasshopper...you get the picture!).

I like this book for two main reasons.  First it gave me some fresh ideas for some fun science themed projects.  Second, it took things we were already doing and supplied ways to make it more interesting.  Not a bad investment in a book if you ask me.  There are projects in this book that call for materials that are not kicking around my house (PVC Pipe and the like) but most of the materials called for are common household items.  The recommended age group for this book is from 2-8 and I think every parenting library should have a copy.

Happy Experimenting! Pin It

Shushybye Review & Giveaway...

My 3.5 year olds have been giving me a run for my money when it comes to bedtime.  It is the usual stall tactics favored by young children (I need a drink, I am hungry, Where is my teddy bear/bunny/lion etc) but it really can make the nighttime routine a challenge.  To add to this, one of the boys has started to have occasional bad dreams so when 7:00 rolls around it can be quite a scene at our house.  Our bedtime dramas are why I was particularly happy to receive a Shushybye Book and music CD for review.

For those of you who do not know, Shushybye is a brand/lifestyle designed to inspire children to look forward to sleep. The world of Shushybye is filled with fun characters called Shushies who lead children into a land filled with fun and sweet dreams. It is an adorable concept.  To explain further I am going to borrow an excerpt from the Shushybye website...

SHUSHYBYE is the land way above the clouds where the Shushies (led by SNOOZLES, DOZIE AND ZEEZ) make dreams for children, then place them in SHUSHYBYE Dream Boxes, which are sent to sleeping children via the SHUSHYBYE Train driven by CONDUCTOR MCCLOUD. In order to get their SHUSHYBYE dreams each night, children have to go to sleep on time for the arrival of the SHUSHYBYE Train - when Mommy and Daddy tell them to!

The Shushies who make the dreams live in such SHUSHYBYE villages as Slumber Heights, Yawn Island, Snore Shore and Nap Valley.

In addition to making children's nightly dreams together with his Shushie friends Dozie and Zeez, Snoozles also serves as the Dream Ambassador for the pre-school set. Whenever a child is experiencing any kind of concern - first day in preschool, a sibling coming into the family, visiting the pediatrician, sharing toys - Snoozles is there to land a helping hand.

The book I received to review, Shushybye Sleepover Surprise, has been a big hit. The boys were very excited to learn all about the Shushies. The book has colorful illustrations, endearing characters as well as a great message of doing something for your friends "just because".   Right away the boys were curious about the characters and excited to learn more about shushybye.  The book includes also includes a CD with the story narrated as well as a few very sweet Shushybye lullabies.  A real plus with my kiddos is that the book cover glows in the dark....it won big coolness points for that!

The CD I received, Shushybye & Goodnight, is a filled with fun, catchy music for kids.  The music is very upbeat and "danceable" so I recommend this one during the daytime hours.  Right now it is in our CD player in our car and the boys are really enjoying it and it gets us talking about the Shushies and their role in sleeping which in turn helps at bedtime.

The Shushybye book and CD get a big thumbs up from this mom and her two 3.5 year old critics.  You can see more about the Shushybyes at http://www.shushybye.com/.  While you are there check out the Shushybye Shoppe (love the Shushie dolls!!)  as well as some upcoming tour dates to see the Shushies live!

In addition, the people of Shushybye have offered one lucky Reviewed By Mom reader a copy of the book Shushybye Surprise and the CD, Shushybye & Goodnight!  Here is how to enter...

Flashback Friday...Cloud b Twilight Turtle

My boys went through a rough phase last year when they suddenly became anxious at night about being separated from my husband and me in the dark.  They had a traditional wall night light but that was not doing the trick.  After much searching I found the perfect night time companion...Cloud b's Twilight Turtle.
The Twilight Turtle is an adorable companion/night light who casts constellations on the walls and ceiling of your child's room.  The shell is hard plastic and the body is a soft plush.  The stars on the ceiling create a relaxing atmosphere and also serve as a night light.  There are three color choices on each turtle: blue, green and amber, so your child can choose the color that suits them best.  The turtle is also set on an automatic timer so, after 45 minutes, it automatically turns off saving the batteries.  The unit is easily turned back on with the push of a button so even my three year olds can turn it back on if they need some extra light in the night.

For older children, there is a star guide so you can use the turtle as a learning tool helping them to identify actual constellations.  I am a huge fan of this product.  It has provided some comfort to me boys in the night and is also and adorable addition to any bedroom or nursery.  I would recommend the Twilight Turtle for any group and give it an "A" rating.

Fisher-Price Snap-Lock Beads

Sometimes it is the simple things that keep a baby occupied which is why I  love Snap-Lock Beads by Fisher-Price.  I guess I should say that is why my 7 month old daughter loves them.  These plastic beads are currently on Baby R's must have list and one of the  first toys she reaches for.

The Snap-Lock Beads do not require batteries, make noises, light up or teach your baby the ABC's.  They are simply brightly colored, palm-sized, plastic beads that can be pulled apart and put back together.  My daughter loves to chew on them (she is busy growing teeth!) and likes to bang them together.  She is too small to snap them together but, when my boys were younger, they used to love making long chains with them.  The Snap-Lock Beads also make for great bathtub toys and I especially love how I can toss them in my dishwasher basket to clean...easy!

If you are looking for an easy, interesting toy for your baby look no further than Fisher-Price's Snap-Lock Beads.  They are incredibly reasonably priced at under $15 per set and will keep your little one entertained with something that does not require an army of batteries.  Ahhhh....the simple life!
