Something I also like is that you can buy individual cards for lots of occasions.  I have not seen this a lot and I like that feature.  I do not need a set of 20 Wedding or Get Well cards on hand but I do like to have a few.  How cute is this one for the bride and groom??

Anytime Costumes....Review & Giveaway!

I am so ready for fall.  I am ready for crisp air, fresh apples and HALLOWEEN!  At our house we go a little bananas over Halloween.  My husband and the boys decorate the house.  I am not talking a few spider webs strung about...no sir!  We have lights, spooky music, a skeleton on the porch and all kinds of things that go bump in the night.  Yes, I told you, bananas!  This, naturally, extends to our costumes and the boys have been thinking about it since November 1st.

I have found many costumes to be of sub par quality.  They are not durable enough to withstand marathon trick or treating and that will just no do!  When I find a company who has great costumes I get really excited which is why I am thrilled to tell you about Anytime Costumes.  Anytime Costumes has a massive selection of costumes for the entire family...even the family pet!   They have anything you or your child could ever imagine being.  The selection is staggering!  I was lucky enough for Anytime Costumes to send me one of their costumes so I could check out the quality.  "A" had decided he was going to be a police officer for Halloween this year so we chose this costume....

Hey Arnold! Season One...Review!

Earlier this month an oldie but goodie Nickelodeon television show was released to DVD....Hey Arnold!  The first season made its' way to stores on August 9th much to the delight of Nick fans from the 90's.   Here is the scoop...

Hey Arnold!, one of the most beloved animated Nickelodeon series from the 1990s, arrives in stores nationwide for the first time on August 9, 2011, from Shout! Factory. Featuring all 20 hilarious episodes, Hey Arnold!: Season One follows the adventures of Arnold, the original football-headed boy’s life in the big city alongside his Grandpa, Grandma, Abner the pig and a host of other friends and neighbors. Long anticipated by fans, Hey Arnold!: Season One has not been available in stores until now. The four-disc DVD set has a suggested retail price of $29.93.

Like all of Nickelodeon’s classic shows, Hey Arnold!: Season One boasts an all-star voice cast which includes Toran Caudell (7th Heaven), Dan Castellaneta (The Simpsons, Futurama), Tress MacNeille (The Simpsons, Futurama), Jamil Walker Smith (Shark Tale) and Francesca Smith.

A favorite with viewers and critics alike, Hey Arnold! stars Arnold, a fourth grader who lives with his grandparents Phil and Gertrude, owners of the Sunset Arms boarding house. Each episode finds Arnold in a new, sticky situation, whether it’s helping out a schoolmate with their problems or dealing with his own. Unfortunately, Arnold’s predicaments are often started by Helga, a schoolmate who picks on Arnold and constantly bullies him. However, Helga only pretends to dislike Arnold to hide the fact that she is secretly in love with him!
Created by Craig Bartlett as a comic in 1986, Hey Arnold! debuted as an animated short for the Nickelodeon film Harriet the Spy in 1996. Hey Arnold! went on to air on Nickelodeon from 1996 to 2001. The show also aired on "Nick on CBS" from 2002 until 2004.

I never saw Hey Arnold!  until the kids and I were sent the first season for review.  What an adorable show!   This one is  so funny and charming that I can't believe it is still not running on TV!  A&W really enjoyed the predicaments of Arnold and had plenty of laugh out loud moments.  I found the show to be completely watchable (some children's shows are a bit of an ahem...struggle to sit through) and I liked how Arnold uses  problem solving skills....lots of positive messages in this show.  Hey Arnold Season One would be a great addition to your DVD collection.  This one would be great for a nostalgic fan or for new fans to be!  Pick up your copy today on Amazon for just $19.99 (a steal!!)...

*Disclaimer:  I was given a copy of the above mentioned DVD for purpose of review but received no compensation.  The views expressed are 100% honest and my own.

Bike Glow...Review!

I can't believe summer is coming to a close.  I have mixed feelings...I am so sad to see summer go but I am also excited about the arrival of my favorite season to arrive.  I love the fall with its' crisp evenings, back to school shopping and falling leaves.  It also brings with it darker skies earlier in the evening (hooray for no more-"I know the sun is still shining sweetie but it IS bedtime"!).  I was recently sent a product to review that is the perfect companion on those darker, back to school evenings....the Bike Glow!  Here is the scoop...

Description: A bike safety light product, the brightly colored BikeGlow™ Safety Light will dramatically increase your bike's side visibility when it's wrapped around your frame.
  •  10 ft. flexible light tube uses electroluminescent technology and features bright colors for increased visibility from side
  •  Choose between steady, slow flashing, and fast flashing modes
  •  3-1/2" x 1-1/4" power unit attaches to bike with included strap; unit weighs less than 2 oz.
  •  Light attaches by wrapping around frame tubing and secures tightly with included attachment ties or tape
  •  BikeGlow™ is lightweight and secure enough to be left on your bike so you have safety lighting always at the ready
  •  Waterproof battery housing (pictured below)
  •  Batteries not included
  •  1 year full-warranty
  •  Patent pending waterproof design
The Bike Glow is such a fun product.  A&W loved seeing their bikes glowing and flashing...they think they are pretty hot stuff with their bikes all aglow!  Even more important that the fun factor is the safety factor.  The Bike Glow makes your child super visible in low light conditions which is so important.  When the kiddos are out and about on their bikes we want them to be safe which, in the evening, makes the Bike Glow a no brainer!  Let your kids appreciate the fun factor while you breathe a little easier as they are out riding.  By the way-the Bike Glow is NOT just for kids.  I am thinking of getting one for me  and my Pee Wee Herman style pink bike...now THAT is cool!  Buy the Bike Glow by clicking HERE.  Happy Riding! My Name is Handel...Review & Giveaway!

Earlier in the week a wonderful CD was released and I am so excited to tell you about it.  My Name is Handel by Maestro Classics is one for the whole family!  Maestro Classics produces Stories for Children which is an award winning (45 and counting!) series featuring well loved stories and classical music.  I just think this concept if so fun and innovative and a great way to get children involved in classical pieces.  Here is the scoop...

My Name is Handel transports listeners to early 18th century London, where George Frideric Handel, the brilliant young German composer, has established residence. Handel’s erstwhile employer, the Elector of Hanover, has just succeeded to the throne of England to become King George I.  As a true showman’s response to the announcement of a royal boat trip on the River Thames, Handel composes a suite of dances, hires a boat and 50 musicians, and heads down the river to surprise the King. The music Handel wrote for this occasion has become known as "Water Music," one of the composer’s best-loved works. The story of this tuneful adventure serves as the engaging backdrop for a multifaceted exploration of Handel’s career and a musical response to the question, “How did a German become England’s most famous composer?”   With eminent conductor Stephen Simon directing the London Philharmonic Orchestra, renowned Baroque soprano Julianne Baird and baritone James Shaffran, narration by Yadu (a.k.a. Dr. Konrad Czynski), and intriguing observations by Maestro Classics co-founder Bonnie Ward Simon, My Name is Handel is much more than your typical “classical music for kids” CD.

Free Spirt Apparel...Review & Giveaway!

After reading my last post, you know I am a gal who likes to look fashionable as I chase after the kiddos.  I am not talking about a fancy, perfect outfit that costs a bundle and that will make me cry when finger prints get on it but I do like clothes that are fashionable and functional.  When I was given the opportunity from Free Spirit Apparel to check out one of their custom made skirts I couldn't wait!

Free Spirit Apparel is run by the very talented Teri and Deb who make you a skirt to your complete specifications.  You provide your measurements and select the material and then choose from one of several different styles.  There are long skirts, swish skirts and even a style called "rags to riches" which takes your old jeans and fashions them into a cute skirt....what a fun idea!  After much thought, I finally decided on the pocket skirt.  Within a week of the whole process my skirt arrived....the customer service and speediness is remarkable!  Here is my custom made skirt...

I don't usually do this but I am posting a picture of me in the skirt so you can get a feel for the fit and cut...

Disregarding the pile of (clean at least!) dishes, lack of make-up and lack of  flat iron use...doesn't this skirt look great?  It is so well made, it fits me  perfectly and it is super comfy!  I love that it has two pockets for me to to fill with the usual ramdomness throughout the day....matchbox cars, pennies, cheerios, dandelions and pennies were in there at last check!

Impel Clothing...Review & Giveaway!

I am always on the hunt for clothes for myself that are fun and flattering.  I may be a stay-at-home mom but I still want to look put together at the park or when I am peeling a tantruming toddler off the grocery store floor.  I have found a great new site that has fabulous women's clothing and is the home of my new favorite shirt....Impel Clothing.  Here is a company overview...

Impel Clothing is a  modest women’s boutique specializing in basic, yet fashionable layering tees and vintage inspired modest clothing for women. Our modestly fitted cap-sleeve, long-sleeve, and v-neck tees have become known for their quality and durability, as have our essential camis. We truly hope that you love Impel as much as we do.  Check out our extremely cute and trendy "New" Vintage inspired line, it's going to knock your socks off. We combine today's stylish designs and modest fashion to create layered clothing that you will love wearing. The arrival of our new vintage inspired line of modest womens sweaters, cardigans, lace tops, coats, dresses, skirts, and accessories is only the beginning though, come back often and see our newest and most desired modest clothes.

Ok....if you are thinking modest is code for frumpy you are way off the mark.  Impel has some fabulously stylish items.  What I particularly love are the staple wardrobe pieces like the cami's and t-shirts.

I love the look of jeans and a t-shirt but I want the t-shirt to be cute....not shapeless and boxy.  I was sent the long sleeve t-shirt from Impel and I love it.  I mean it....I really, really LOVE it!  I have never had a t-shirt fit me so flatteringly.  It has some stretch to it (has a bit of spandex) so it is fitted and it is cute with a women's body in mind...no shapeless frock here!  It is also a bit longer in the sleeves and length which makes it super flattering.  I like this t so much that I will not go back to any other brand....they are that good!  I really want to try their jeans next.  At only $49 they look super stylish and if the quality is on par with my t it will surely make them a favorite too!

I am so excited to tell you that Impel Clothing is giving one lucky RBM reader a $20 gift certificate!  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

The Steam Team (Austin, TX)....

Our family is on a house hunt. We are buying locally but still the prospect is daunting.  We are looking for an multi-family unit in so we can have an apartment for my mother.   It will be a great move for us all but the hunt and the prep work is more than a little stressful.  We actually looked at an apartment building over the weekend and while it was enormous (hooray for lots of space!!), it needed a lot of love....more than we could tackle I am afraid.  The current owners had let renters turn it into a shambles with filthy carpets and hardwood floors a mildew and smoke smell throughout.  Yuck!  It was perfect timing when I received word about
http://www.thesteamteam.com/ .

The Steam Team has all your cleaning needs covered.  From carpet, drape and upholstery cleaning to stone, tile and marble cleaning, the can tackle it.  They have special treatments to rid fibers of pet odors and cigarette smoke.  They are also specialists in removing water and smoke damage from fire catastrophes.  This company means business.  The only draw back for me?  The are in Austin, Texas!  If The Steam Team could have magically appeared in Maine and worked their cleaning magic on this apartment I might have been able to see things in a different light.  Alas, I will have to just tell you all in the Texas area about this spic and span company!  If you are in The Steam Team area and are looking for home rug cleaning Austin or any other type of cleaning for that matter, be sure to contact The Steam Team.  They have you covered!

Toweligator...Review & Giveaway!

Over the past month or so I have had a great little gadget accompanying me and the kiddos to the beach...the Toweligator.  Here is the scoop on what helps keep us together while we hit the sand and surf...

Conceptualized during a windy beach trip, DiMart, LLC. has invented the must-have beach accessory for the summer -  the Toweligator®.

At some point, every beachgoer has experienced trouble with the wind ripping away their beach towel or struggled with trying to hang that wet suit or beach towel up to dry on less-than ideal surfaces.

Originally designed to hold your beach towel securely in place, either in the sand or on your beach chair, the Toweligator’s practical uses are endless (beach, pool, boat, etc).

The Toweligator is a bendable alligator beach clamp that grips tightly with its mouth onto a beach towel or accessory and wraps firmly with its tail to secure it down into the
sand or to a chair.

Unlike common one-use towel holders, because of the distinctive and patented bendable tail design, you can also stick it straight into the beach to keep cell phones, reading glasses, or ipods safe from the sand.  The strong gator-grip jaws ensure your belongings stay where you put them.

The Toweligator is the newest and best solution for all that frustration at the beach….and everywhere in between. They will help you stay organized at the beach with your kids.
This is a fun AND handy little gadget. I have been using it mostly for the beach to keep my towels down but I have also been using it on my jogger.  I use it to clip my purse onto the bar of the jogger...love it!  The kids also love that it is a cute little gator so it is a great toy stand in!  I am a big fan of things that are fun AND functional and the Toweligator fits the bill!  Pick yours up today for just $14.95 for a two pack.  Click HERE to order.

ACARE Box...Review & Giveaway!

Are we all in back to school mode yet?  I know some schools have already started and I know most college kids have left the nest, ready to be on their own for the semester.  When I think about sending my kiddos off to college (I know, a little loopy since it is so far off but they are my babies!!) I get all nerved up.  I know it is a natural progression into adulthood but being a grownup can be overwhelming and more than a little lonely at times.  When I was approached by ACARE Box about doing a review of their Freshman Survival Gift Basket I was excited about it.  I love the idea of a basket making its' way to a kid just starting off on a new adventure...such a sweet idea!

When the basket arrived it was so well done.  It was all packed in a black metal trash can and filled with all the things you could ever need for your dorm room...paper, pencils and sharpeners, hand sanitizer, reusable bowls, a laundry stain stick, a first aid kit and even goodies like microwavable chicken noodle soup and some candy.  This trash can (love the usefulness of the actual basket!!) was bursting with good ideas which would make any kid on their own feel more comfortable and at home.  I have to say it....I wish I was this creative but I am not.  Even if I was it would take me forever to gather all these thoughtful items with A,W&R in tow!  This basket retails for just $40 and to me that is a steal!  A basket (err...trash can!) filled with everything your kiddo away from home needs not to mention a sweet and thoughtful reminder that they are being thought of...for only $40!

ACARE Box has a big variety of baskets for purchase and they are all $40.  Some of my favorites are Welcome Home (housewarming) and Troop Carrier (made especially for troops away from home!)....

Every single basket is made to order with special thought going into every single one.  There is nothing generic in any of these baskets.  When you place the order, you give the age range of the recipient and the gender and there is space to add any notes or specifications.  The company is willing to work with you to create any type of basket you are in need of.  This is the ACARE Box motto (which I LOVE)...

"Completely Customized, Personalized, Individualized, Specialized, Patricularized, Unique-icized, CARE Boxes for the One You Love".

I have had the pleasure of working directly with Lei, the president of ACARE Box and who is also the person who puts the the baskets together.  She starting basket making in high school with her mom when they would create Freshman Care Packages for members of their church.  This is a passion of hers and it truly shows in her creations and in speaking with her, I just knew she was doing this from her heart.  ACARE Box is a company I feel makes a quality product and I also feel good about the company overall.  There is a person behind the business and the person loves what they do...for me, it does not get any better than that!

We all want to know our loved ones are thinking of us and we don't always have the time or creative juices (me!me!me!) to put something thoughtful together.  Work with ACARE Box to create something special for any occasion and let your loved one know they are on your mind.

Discount Alert:  Lei from ACARE Box is offering a $10 discount to Reviewed By Mom readers.  To get your discount visit www.acarebox.com and look around.  E-mail Lei at lei@acarebox.com to give her your feedback and she will give you a discount code.  OR visit the ACARE Box blog and leave a comment on any of her posts along with your e-mail and she will get you a code.  This is a great deal so don't miss out!!

I am so pleased to tell you that one lucky RBM reader will win an ACARE Box of their choice!  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

Laugh, cry and win when WIN WIN comes to Blu-ray and DVD on August 23, 2011 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. WIN WIN is not just another sports movie; the unconventionally uplifting film combines action on the mat with the hilarious highs and heartbreaking lows of a new kind of family. When Mike Flaherty (Giamatti) comes across a teenage runaway who also happens to be a champion wrestler, Mike’s luck turns around in spectacular fashion. But his win-win situation soon becomes more complicated than he ever imagined when the boy’s family affairs come into play. Co-starring Oscar® Nominee Amy Ryan** and directed by Oscar® Nominee Tom McCarthy†, this touching and funny comedy will leave you cheering.

Pocket Purifier...Review & Giveaway!

I know I am not the only one who fears germs.  I don't have an irrational fear (I can still leave the house!) but I definitely cringe over shopping carts, public restrooms and play food at the museum.  I feel like I can just see germs crawling just waiting to get my kiddos sick with the next bug that is floating around.  Blech!  When I was approached to review The Pocket Purifier by Purely Products, I knew this one was for me.  Here's why...

While the majority of us simply try not to think about it, the reality is that we touch hundreds of surfaces every day that are crawling with germs and bacteria. Airplane restrooms, hotel remotes, door handles, the bottom purses, the soles of shoes – the list of places we encounter hidden germs without washing our hands is endless. Traditionally these surfaces are not easy sanitize, but The Pocket Purifier is revolutionizing the way America cleans by providing a simple and effective way to eliminate germs and bacteria from any surface in seconds.

A compact germicidal light from Purely Products, the Pocket Purifier uses the same UV-C light used to sterilize surgical instruments to eliminate 99.9% of germs that cause colds, and flu, plus e-coli, salmonella, mold, fungus and MRSA staph (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus). Whether you need to sterilize the changing station for your child in a public restroom, want to clean the handle of the grocery store shopping cart or need to sanitize your cutting board after slicing raw meat, the Pocket Purifier is easy to use and lightweight so you can bring it anywhere.

Q: A Novel by Evan Mandery....Review & Giveaway!

Later this month (August 23rd) a wonderful new book will be released from Harper Collins....Q:  A Novel by Evan Mandery.  Here is the scoop...

“Q, Quentina Elizabeth Deveril, is the love of my life.”

Shortly before his wedding, the unnamed hero of this uncommon romance is visited by a man who claims to be his future self and ominously admonishes him that he must not marry the love of his life, Q. At first the protagonist doubts this stranger, but in time he becomes convinced of the authenticity of the warning and leaves his fiancÉe. The resulting void in his life is impossible to fill. One after the other, future selves arrive urging him to marry someone else, divorce, attend law school, leave law school, travel, join a running club, stop running, study the guitar, the cello, Proust, Buddhism, and opera, and eliminate gluten from his diet. The only constants in this madcap quest for personal improvement are his love for his New York City home and for the irresistible Q.

My mother-in-law, The Queen Bee, got first dibs on this book and had this to say about it...

" You must not marry Q". Those were the words that set a whole lifetime full of regrets in motion for Mandery's character in this new novel. The person who delivered those words, sets this story in motion.
The reader never learns the name of the main character, as the story is told in the first person. But I didn't realize I didn't know his name, until I was ready to write this review.  He was always "I". And that one letter/word becomes an important part of the story. I am sure this must all sound very "out there". And this book is kind of science fiction-y, but it doesn't feel that way. I am not a science fiction lover. BUT I loved this book.
The main character is a 20-something aspiring author /college professor hoping for tenure. He falls in love with Quentina Deveril. Q happens to be the love of his life. As they get into the final stages of wedding planning, the author is visited by a very sad looking 55 year old man, who happens to be his own 55 year old self ( I-55), transported back in time with the help of a time machine. "You must not marry Q".
Crazy, huh? Except it doesn't feel that way as you read along. This young man goes on a roller coaster ride through-out his life, the paths dictated by his older-selves (I-57, I-60,
I-80.....) coming back to visit and changing the coarse of his life over & over & over.
All because he didn't marry Q.
Long after you read this book, you will still be thinking about it, which is the gift of a good book.

After talking to the Queen Bee about this book I can't wait to read it!!  Doesn't it sound so interesting and well done??   You can pick it up today on Amazon for pre-order...
