Zeke's Candy Company...R&G!

Have I got something delicious to share with you today.....Zeke's Candy Company!   My sweet tooth is singing over the delicious butterscotch candy they sent my way to review (have I told you lately how much I love this gig??).  Zeke's Candy Company has had me and my husband hiding candy from our children so we don't have to share. Shameful aren't we??  Here is the story behind our sweet little secret...

Zeke’s Candy Company, formerly Cotton’s Candy Kitchen Co., is owned and operated by Sheila and Jeff Cotton and has been in operation since 1988. Our primary product has been and always will be real old fashioned butterscotch candy.  Zeke was Sheila's  uncle and the most colorful character in her family and it was her family’s recipe for butterscotch that started our business.

We have been making old fashioned vintage candy, specifically real butterscotch candy, since 1985. We have lots of dedicated fans nationwide who are addicted. We warn them “Suck, Don’t Chew!” and “You’ll soon be drooling” but they keep coming back for more. They can’t resist! Try it yourself and you’ll understand why Zeke’s is

HOLY COW!  This buttery goodness is, in a word, amazing.  It is not chewy gooey like some butterscotch but a candy to suck on.  Your instinct will be to bite into it but don't....this candy is made for savoring!  Zeke's butterscotch is, hands down, the best butterscotch candy I have eve had in my life.  My husband and I adore it and I am sure my kids would too if only I would share with them (sorry kiddos!).

Zeke's has something else I love which is the Sweet Bites Club.  Check this out and be sure to sign up (I know I will be doing it!!)...

Eager to share with fellow candy enthusiasts, Zeke’s is introducing the Sweet Bites Club, allowing members to be the first to taste and review the company’s new sweet creations.

Sign up on Zeke’s website to become a participant in this exclusive program or give a membership as a gift for that sweet-toothed friend of yours. For only $19, members are mailed three delicious packages of freshly made candy over a 90-day period. Ground shipping is always free for our Sweet Bites Club mailings.

Members of this limited-time-only club don’t just get to taste new products, but are an integral part in determining if prototype candies will hit the mark.

“We want Sweet Bites Club members to be involved in the expansion and evaluation of our new candies,” says Shelia Cotton, owner of Zeke’s Candy. Each month we carefully select a delectable new sweet to satisfy your candy fix and encourage members to fill out the accompanying feedback card and share on Facebook which new treat is your favorite.”

Each month Zeke’s will reveal a new treat on Facebook and allow new testers to join the club and review new treats.

Yes, Please!  Three packs of deliciousness from Zeke's for $19 is a no brainer if you ask me.  Sign up HERE today.

I also have to mention that Zeke's Candy has it's roots in Maine and you all know how I love a Maine company.  Zeke himself was a Mainer and Sheila grew up here as well.  Let me tell you, we Mainers like our candy and the best of the best is Zeke's!  Visit Zeke's today by clicking here and enjoy every blissful mouthful!

I am so excited to tell you that one lucky RBM reader will win a box of their butterscotch candy (a $18.95 value!) courtesy of Zeke's.  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

Doodle Roll....R&G!

My kids love to get creative.  We do tons of coloring, painting and other crafting.  Actually, something that can really keep Little R occupied these days is coloring. This is great at home but not so great when we are out and about.  Trucking crayons and paper is not always easy to do when you are on the run. Not so anymore.  Enter the Doodle Roll!  Heard of it?  If not let me share with you a creative way to get kids crafty anywhere.  Here is the scoop...

The award winning Doodle Roll® offers kids, parents, grandparents and teachers a compact, portable, convenient and fun craft activity, anytime anywhere! The Doodle Roll® comes in two handy sizes, 4” which contains 15’ of paper and 4 crayons or 6” which contains 30” of paper and 4 cool double sided crayons.
Priced under $5 the Doodle Roll® makes the perfect party favor, stocking stuffer, classroom activity or storyboard and provides endless possibilities for creating any kind of banner or boarder, for all occasions and themes!
The convenient built in dispenser allow kids to expand and express their creativity and imagination on any length of paper, then tear away their masterpiece with the handy and safe serrated cutting edge.

Isn't this just SO clever!  I was sent a 4" and a 6"  size and these handy sets were huge hits with me AND the kids.  These are super for tossing in your purse to make waits in a restaurant, dentist doctor or hair appoinment more enjoyable for your child (and you!).  A&W like to use theirs to practice letters and Little R just colors her little heart out.  I think the Doodle Roll is a spectacular product and I have been telling everyone I know!  I am not the only one who thinks the Doodle Roll is pretty spectacular.  They are currently part of a "Get on the Shelf" program sponsored by Wal-Mart. We Bought a Zoo: DVD & Book Giveaway!

Earlier in the week I mentioned how excited I was about the upcoming release of We Bought a Zoo.  Today I am thrilled to tell you more about the movie and about a fun giveaway I am lucky enough to be hosting for you!  For those of you who have not heard about this movie (where have you been??), here is a synopsis...

This Easter, be unpredictable, do something crazy and embrace your wild side! Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment presents an inspiring adventure based on a true story of one man who brought a zoo back to life and family back together in WE BOUGHT A ZOO, arriving on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download April 3. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire) and starring Matt Damon (Contagion, True Grit), Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) and Thomas Haden Church (Easy A, Sideways), WE BOUGHT A ZOO is “a sweet-natured tale…that you’ll want to see with your kids” (Liz Braun, Jam! Movies).

Benjamin Mee (Damon) is a Los Angeles newspaper columnist and adventure writer who, as a single father, faces the challenges of raising his two young children. Hoping that a fresh start and a new life will restore their family spirit, Mee quits his job and buys an old rural house outside the city with a unique bonus feature: a zoo named the Rosemoor Animal Park, where dozens of animals reside under the care of head zookeeper Kelly Foster (Johansson) and her dedicated team. With no experience, limited time and a shoestring budget, Mee sets out with the support of his family and the local community to reopen the zoo. Now, Benjamin is no longer reporting an adventure story; he’s living it in his own backyard.

I think this movie is fantastic.  First of all, I think Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson are incredibly talented and bring real life to their roles.  The story was a bit of a tear jerker for me and I was very moved by the story.  A single dad trying to make life the better for his children in the form of a zoo?  Sign me up!  I loved the chemistry between Benjamin and Kelly and I loved the real life struggles portrayed.  I thought the difficult dynamic between father and son were spot on and I was completely won over by the adorable little Rosie (Damon's daughter).  This movie will make you laugh, cry and thing and, to me, that  is the recipe for a perfect film!  Pre-order this one from Amazon today...you will be so glad you did!

I am so pleased to tell you that one lucky RBM reader will win a We Bought a Zoo DVD as well as a copy of the novel We Bought a Zoo on which the film is based.  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

Raccoon Nation...R&G!

I have such a fascinating DVD to tell you about today from PBS...Raccoon Nation.  In our old house we had a bit of woods behind us and there was a raccoon that lived in a big tree with her baby.  We liked to watch it sleep in the hole in the tree (from a distance of course!) however we liked it less when she got into our trash cans!  I was excited to watch Raccoon Nation with my husband (he's a nature buff so I knew he would love it!).  Here is the scoop...

Watch Raccoon Nation - Preview on PBS. See more from Nature.

When the lights go down in cities across North America, another world is revealed, populated by shady little characters that live alongside us, but exist in the margins. These pint-size problem solvers are smart, adaptable and omnivorous, and they love a good challenge. Welcome to the world of urban raccoons. With their busy little hands, they can do what other would-be urban animals can’t — open doors, get into attics, and raid secured trash cans. And they are especially fond of big cities, like Chicago, New York, and Toronto — the raccoon capital of the world. In cities everywhere, wherever they’ve been introduced, they have done very, very well.

Following a family of urban raccoons over the course of six months, and using high-definition cameras and intensive GPS tracking systems, “Raccoon Nation” reveals new insights about a species that is far more elusive and wily than most people ever imagined, and more destructive.

It seems that the more obstacles you throw in their way, the smarter they get. In an effort to outwit raccoons, we may be pushing their brain development and perhaps even sending them down a new evolutionary path. One biologist who has been studying raccoons for 25 years believes the city life is in fact cultivating “über-raccoons,” ready to take over the world. Only time will tell just how advanced this “nation” of urban raccoons will become.
This DVD was SO interesting. I was completely blown away at how intelligent these creatures are.  Those little hands of theirs are quite, well, handy!  I found the technology to be absolutely amazing.  Tracking a raccoon family for six months using GPS??  It was such a unique way to learn about animals and their habits and I found myself drawn right into the program.  To be completely honest I am generally not a nature show type of gal but Raccoon Nation is NOT  your average nature show.  With the technology and the in depth looks into the lives of these little bandits it is hard not to be engrossed.  This DVD is a great one for your home library and I highly recommend it!  You can pick up your copy today on Amazon...

I am so excited to tell you that PBS is giving FOUR lucky RBM readers a copy of Raccoon Nation!  Thanks so much to my friends at PBS and Good Luck!  To enter click "read more" and use the Rafflecopter entry form.

First Prayers by Troy Howell...R&G!

I have a lovely children's book to tell you about today that would make the perfect addition to an Easter Basket.  First Prayers, illustrated by Troy Howell is a beautiful collection of prayers and psalms to help you and your child celebrate the world.  Here is the scoop...
This lavish, inspiring collection of prayers will encourage young children to give thanks for the good things in their lives. In addition to traditional prayers, there are classic poems written by William Blake (“Little Lamb, who made thee?”), Robert Browning (“The year's at the spring”), Samuel Taylor Coleridge (“He prayeth well, who loveth well”), and others.

This book is a such a sweet collection and perfect for children of all ages.  My daughter loves the simple bedtime verses and prayers and I really enjoy sharing them with her.  Our favorite is credited to an "Old New England Sampler" and reads...

God bless all those that I love,

God bless all those that love those that I love,
And all those that love those that love me.

Breakout Kings The Complete First Season: OUT NOW!

Looking for a new series to get lost in?  Check out the hit show, Breakout Kings!   The complete first season was just released and it completely won me over.  Here is the scoop...
Synopsis:

There’s no escape when BREAKOUT KINGS,” comes to DVD on March 13 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Don’t miss the chance to catch up on the gripping suspense, meet the provocative characters and experience the non-stop action that helped “BREAKOUT KINGS” Season 1, post record ratings for an original drama series on A&E.

Now renewed for its second season, “BREAKOUT KINGS” follows some unconventional partners working to catch convicts on the run. Driven by the fact that there are few things more dangerous than a prisoner who has just escaped and tired of following protocol, veteran U.S. Marshals Charlie DuChamp (Laz Alonso) and Ray Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi) are taking an unorthodox approach to their work: using former fugitives to catch fugitives. If they agree to help, the fugitives’ sentences will be reduced for each escaped convict they bring in. However, if any of them should try to escape themselves their sentences will be doubled. Will the “BREAKOUT KINGS” wait for their freedom, or will they go on the run themselves?

“BREAKOUT KINGS” Season 1 is loaded with exclusive special features including deleted and extended scenes and several must see featurettes including Good Cons, Bad Cons, Bullpin Sessions, and spotlight on Prison Break cross-over character T:Bag Dealt a Bad Hand.

“BREAKOUT KINGS” also stars Jimmi Simpson (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “My Name is Earl”); Malcolm Goodwin (“Raising the Bar,” “Hack,”); Serinda Swan (“Supernatural,” “Smallville”); and Brooke Nevin (“The 4400,” “Worst Week”). “BREAKOUT KINGS” comes from Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora, writers and producers of the hit series “Prison Break.” “BREAKOUT KINGS” is produced by Fox Television Studios for A&E Network.
This is just the kind of series I love.  It is exciting, action packed with characters who make me want to tune back in.  I love the concept of the show and it is a new twist on a prison series.  I was hooked after the first episdoe and I am now about half way through the first series. This show is a must watch!  I can't wait to pop in the DVD at night once the kiddos go to sleep so I can get my adrenaline popping from something besides chasing a todller down from the edges of playground equipment!  Pick up The Complete First Season of the Breakout Kings today on Amazon...

*Disclosure:  I was given a copy of the above mentioned DVD for purpose of my 100% honest review.

If we can help divert waste from landfills or be a source of inspiration for fun and creative ways to re-use that old thing-a-ma-jig that has been sitting in your attic for years, well then, that is a win all around.

Pretty cool, right?  Check out some of their favorite products for Mother's Day....

Magic Whiteboard...Review!

I love getting crafty with the kids.  I know how important it is for them to be able to express themselves creatively and I am always happy to find new ways to help facilitate that. When I was offered the opportunity to review The Magic Whiteboard recently I was intrigued.  Have you heard of this yet?  Here is a bit of background....

The Magic Whiteboard is a Whiteboard on a Roll, and it is perfect for home, school and the office, from the playroom to the classroom to the boardroom. It is completely erasable and sticks to any hard, flat surface using electrostatic technology, so no adhesive is needed. You can reuse each sheet more than 20 times and recycle it when you’re ready to throw it away. Any ink from dry erase markers will rub off easily even if left on for days, but note that dry erase ink can rub off when sheets are folded or rolled.

What a great idea!  When it arrived I could not wait to try it out.  The Magic Whiteboard does everything it says it does...it sticks easily to the walls without damaging them (hooray!) and gives you a space saving area to work on.  We use ours for drawing and for practicing writing letters and numbers and it is fantastic.  It is a great way for children to showcase their work and it is so nice to have something "easel like" that is not a space hog.  I like that the sheets are reusable and we have  used the pages (I have one up for each of the three kids) at least 5 or 6 times and they look like new.

You can purchase your own sheets of Magic Whiteboard on their website for $29.95 for a ten sheets (remember the are reusable!!).  Click HERE to order.

Peter Pauper Press: Ready, Set, Draw....R&G!

March is here and Ihave something new from one of my favorite companies...Peter Pauper Press!  Peter Pauper Press has a huge variety of creative and thoughtful gifts....stationary, books, journals, games, gift wrap, toys, candles and so much more.  If you are looking for something creative and thoughtful, Peter Pauper Press is the way to go.  This month I had the pleasure of reviewing an item for the children.  Ready, Set, Draw....Things That Go is such a wonderful tool and we are huge fans here at RBM!  Here is the scoop...

Get ready, Get set! DRAW! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Ready, Set, Draw . . . Things That Go! From zip-zooming planes to clickety-clack trains, kids can choose from 18 different pictures to draw. Little artists gain confidence and creativity when following the simple, visual, step-by-step, instructions. Includes 48-page sketch pad and 4 double-ended colored pencils. 40 pages, covered wire-o binding. 11-1/2'' wide x 12'' high. Warning: CHOKING HAZARD—small parts. Not for children under 4 years.

I love this!  I am SO not an artistic person so, quite frankly, this book was helpful for me to!  This book has lots of boats, trains, trucks and more for your child to learn to draw with complete confidence.  The step by step break down makes it easy to follow even for little ones.  My 5 1/2 year olds were able to follow along with ease with only occasional help from me.  There are many different themes of these Ready, Set, Draw books as well such as Flower Gardens, Chrismas, Princesses and Under the Sea making it a great gift for anyone on your list.  You can pick up any of the Ready, Set, Draw book on Peter Pauper Press by clicking HERE for just $15.99.

I am so pleased to tell you that Peter Pauper Press is giving one lucky RBM reader their very own Ready, Set, Draw:  Things That Go!  Thanks so much to my friends at Peter Pauper and here is how to enter...

Lady Lynn's Gift Boutique...R&G!

I love jewelry.  I love how the right piece can make an outfit or change it by dressing it up and down.  I feel like you can really get away with just having a few basic pieces of clothing as long as you have the right jewelry to change it up.  When I received the opportunity to review some items from Lady Lynn's Gift Boutique I was so excited.  Then I was overwhelmed. Why?  Because the choices were all so pretty that I had a hard time choosing!

Have you heard of Lady Lynn's yet?  Here is a little blip from their website...

Welcome to Lady Lynn’s Gift Boutique where we specialize in the best Designer Inspired Jewelry at wholesale prices. At Lady Lynn’s Gift Boutique we pride ourselves in selecting trendy affordable replica designer jewelry that are inspired by the most popular designers. We have the best selection and lowest prices on celebrity style, boutique style and designer fashion jewelry.

Great, right??  You know what else is great?  Lady Lynn's gives 10% of their profits to a different charity each month!  I think that is something to celebrate for sure!  Once I spent about an hour on the site (seriously...the selection is so varied and lovely!!). I picked out these three pieces...

Exquisite Long Pearl Silver Chain Necklace . This great Designer Inspired Necklace measures 34 inches long including lobster clasp. Rhodium plated for anti tarnish.  $14.95

Two-tone designer inspired cable cuff bracelet measures 5.5mm and will fit most any size wrist. Rhodium plated for anti tarnish. $10
Vintage Inspired Emerald Green Crystal Stretch bangle bracelet. This stunning Victorian Fashion Bracelet is a great addition to your designer jewelry collection. Beautiful jewel-tone gems sparkle to make this a dazzling fashion statement bracelet. This trendy bracelet measures 1.25 inches wide one size fits most. $12.95

Yes, you read those prices right!!  I have to say, I was not expecting the quality level given these rock bottom prices.  I am thrilled to tell you that Lady Lynn has created these pieces with high quality while still maintaining prices you can afford.  I am so, so happy with my new jewelry.  Each piece is so pretty and so well made.  I wear the necklace with a white blouse and it instantly "pretties" it up.  The cuff bracelet has become a staple piece for me and it really looks expensive and one would never guess it only costs $10 (shhh...don't tell anyone!!).  As for the vintage bracelet, the one I have has black on it as well but it is a stunner.  This is a statement pieces and I wear mine with black and it jazzes up the whole outfit.  This one is my favorite!

As I told you, I could have shopped for hours at Lady Lynn's Gift Boutique and there is no doubt about it...I will be purchasing from the site again.  Quality, fashionable pieces at these prices?  Yes,  please!  Next on my list will likely be this turquoise bracelet for summer...
but I am really eyeing all their colorful coral pieces as well. Decisions, decisions!

I am so pleased to tell you that Lady Lynn's Gift Boutique is giving one lucky RBM reader a $30 gift certificate!  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter....

WordGirl: The Rise of Miss Power...R&G!

I am a PBS superfan.  I LOVE their programming lineup and the shows aired on that network are favorites here at our house.  When we received the opportunity to review the latest WordGirl DVD, The Rise of Miss Power I was delighted.  A&W really enjoy that show and, quite frankly, so do I!  Here is the scoop on what had the pleasure of watching...

Arlington Va. – March 5, 2012 – PBS Distribution today announced it is releasing “WORDGIRL: THE RISE OF MISS POWER” on DVD, featuring Emmy Award®-winner Jane Lynch as the voice of Miss Power. “WordGirl®” is an exciting animated series from Scholastic Media, a division of Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, that follows the life and super hero adventures of WordGirl as she fights crime and enriches vocabulary usage. This “WordGirl” special tackles the topic of bullying as the impact of words is explored. The 70-minute DVD is available now for a suggested retail price of $9.99.

Program SynopsisThe adventure begins when intergalactic visitor Miss Power comes to earth and promises to teach WordGirl everything she knows about crime-fighting. When the lessons don’t go as planned, WordGirl and her sidekick Captain Huggy Face begin to question whether Miss Power is a super hero or a super villain. Besides using strength and speed to defeat villains, Miss Power unleashes a secret weapon: the use of mean words to hurt people. Initially resistant, WordGirl tries the tactic and feels empowered, leaving friends and foes agape at the unpleasant change in her ways. After Miss Power takes bullying to the extreme, WordGirl takes a stand, only to be belittled and stripped of her superhero star. Mrs. Botsford comes to the rescue rallying all of the city’s villains against Miss Power, then WordGirl pledges to use words only for good, sends Miss Power packing, and restores the city to normal.

In addition to “The Rise of Miss Power,” this DVD also includes “A World Without WordGirl.” In “A World Without WordGirl” Becky's most amazing birthday party ever gets interrupted one too many times by citizens in need of WordGirl's assistance and she wishes on her birthday candle for a WordGirl-free world. After they're blown out, she realizes her wish has come true. What has she done?! Not only does WordGirl not exist, but Chuck is now the King and has the city following all sorts of strange rules. Will Becky find the last piece of enchanted birthday cake so that she can wish for the return of WordGirl?

First of all, as all WordGirl episodes are, this was a big hit.  I especially loved that this episode addressed bullying and I thought they handled it beautifully.  I think it was important to see WordGirl undergo the change into a bully and, ultimately realize that being a bully does not stop a bully.  This opened up some great conversations with A&W about why bullying is wrong and how you should handle a bullying situation.  This episode is a gem and opens the door for some valuable talks with your children about how to stop a bully.  I recommend this one for ALL families.  The second episode was  a lot of fun too and the kids enjoyed this one as well.  They, of course, love WordGirl herself but the real star, according to my children is her sidekick, Captain Huggy Face!  Pick up this great DVD today on Amazon...

I am so excited to tell you that FIVE lucky RBM readers will win WordGirl: The Rise of Miss Power! Thank you so much to my friends at PBS for sharing this DVD with me and offering this great giveaway for my readers! To enter click "read more" and use the Rafflecopter form. Good Luck!
