Mygofer.com...Save Time & Your Sanity!

How are you all handling the crush of having the kids home for the summer? My boys are done with preschool and I simply had NO idea just how much those 9 hours a week they spent at preschool freed me up to do my more errands more quickly.  Toting just one child to the store is far easier (yet STILL not a picnic!) than brining three who would much rather be doing something else.  It is not at all Mom's are just oozing with free time either!  Check out these interesting facts....

groceries, modern women

Wow.  This is a little alarming.  I don't want to spend so much of my life in the grocery store. That is really depressing!!  In fact, grocery shopping is one of the things I absolutely dread doing with my children.  It is not that they do not know how to behave (they do!) but three little helpers adds to the time and money spent.  It just does.

When I heard about mygofer.com I was intrigued.  What a super idea.  You go online, make your list and then you pick it up.  Seriously??  This is AMAZING.  Imagine all the time and aggrevation that could be saved!  This is not just for grocery delivery either.  You can nab pet supplies, toiletries, clothes and more!  This is a no brainer to me!  This is a time and sanity saver.  Be sure to visit www.mygofer.com to find a participating store near you and get shopping.

In The Bag by Kate Klise...R&G!

I just finished up a fun summer read....In The Bag by Kate Klise.  Here is the scoop...

A European vacation. A luggage mix-up. A note from a secret admirer.

Meet two single parents who think they're too busy to date.
And two teenagers who can't stop writing flirty emails.
This is a tale of connections—missed and made—in a universe that seems to have its heart set on reuniting Ms. 6B and Mr. 13C.

Webb
I can't believe I picked up the wrong bag at the airport. My dad is never going to let me hear the end of it.

Coco
I don't understand why Mom told me to pack my worst underwear. And now I've lost my bag? Ack!

Andrew
I cannot stop thinking about that woman in seat 6B on the flight to Paris.

Daisy
I don't have time to worry about the creep sitting in 13C who slipped a note in my purse. I have to find my daughter's missing bag before this ruins our vacation.

In the Bag is a smart and stylish story that explores the old-fashioned art of romance in a modern world, where falling in love can be as risky as checking a bag on an international flight. Buckle your seat belt—it's going to be a bumpy vacation!

This was  a fun and quick read.  The chapters were short so it was great for reading when I only had short bits of time ( I could read it in bits and spurts...perfect for me when the kids are awake!).  The characters were cute and likable.  I did occasionally feel like giving them a good shake to tell them "It is him, silly!!  That is your guy!!" but the journey was too light and fun for me to get too upset about what seemed obvious to me.  In the Bag is two different sorts of love stories each with ups and downs and modern day twists.  In The Bag is the book that should be in YOUR beach bag!  Pick up your copy today from Amazon....

American Reunion...Coming Soon! R&G!

AVAILABLE JULY 10th ON BLU-RAYCOMBO PACK – FEATURING DVD, DIGITAL COPY & ULTRAVIOLET– AND ON DVD & ON DEMAND

INCLUDING AN UNRATED VERSION NOT SEEN IN THEATERS

In this latest installment of the American Pie franchise, the gang was invited back to their ‘90s-inspired high school reunion, and here, we too will pay homage to one of our favorite decades! We'll offer tips and hints on how to rock all of the best and most classic 90's fashion, as well as share some of our favorite jams from the decade.

THE CLOTHING

The 90’s were responsible for bringing us two very important, yet very different, key styles: The first look is the Seattle influenced “grunge” look. In order to achieve the perfect Kurt Cobain approved grunge appearance, slackers of the 90’s donned an array of garments: flannel shirts, greasy hair, and baggy, ripped jeans for men, and jean shorts over tights with heavy work boots for the women of the grunge era.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the preppy, school-girly look embraced by all of those who wanted to be just like Cher Horowitz from Clueless.  This look was sported exclusively by women, and consisted of things such as knee high socks, baby-doll dresses, and an abundance of plaid. Shoes were mostly Mary-Jane styled, with the older fans of this style making their look a bit more sophisticated with shoes with higher heels.

THE HAIRSTYLES

If there is one haircut in particular that SCREAMS “90’s”, it’s what’s commonly referred to as “The Rachel”. This bouncy, layered ‘do made infamous by Friends star Jennifer Aniston’s was the most coveted look by women young and old, and is actually still imitated today – nearly 15 years after its creation.

THE JAMS

Though the 1990’s were only a sole 10 years just as any other decade is, it most definitely was all encompassing as far as music was concerned. Not only did we have the grunge artists such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins, but also the emergence of the “Alternative” genre, which remained very ambiguous prior to the 90’s, but grew to include artists such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Foo Fighters, and Bush.  The 90’s also saw a surge in sugary pop music that included “Boy Bands” such as The Backstreet Boys, N’Sync and 98 Degrees, as well as the pop princesses – i.e., Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson.

To celebrate this upcoming release (I can't WAIT to watch....I loved American Pie when it first came out!!!) one lucky RBM reader will win a copy of American Reunion along with some beer flavored lip balm (hilarious!!).  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter.... a Rafflecopter giveaway Pin It

Scholastic Storybook Treasures, My First Collection Vol. 3...R&G!

The kids and I are currently swoooning over a new DVD collection.  Just released from Scholastic is My First Collection, Volume 3 is out now and it became an immediate favorite here.  Here are the details....

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Following the first two installments in the MY FIRST COLLECTION DVD series from Scholastic Storybook Treasures™ – which captured acclaim and awards such as the prestigious Parents’ Choice Gold, the Creative Child Magazine 2011 DVD of the Year, a NAPPA Gold and The Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award – comes another DVD set sure to thrill preschoolers and their families alike: MY FIRST COLLECTION, VOLUME 3 FEATURING CHICKEN LITTLE. Featuring 12 delightful stories on three discs, the set includes three new stories never before released on DVD: “Chicken Little”, the perennial classic from the award-winning father and daughter team, Rebecca Emberley and Ed Emberley; “Scaredy Squirrel”, an hilarious adaption of Mélanie Watt’s first book in the five-book “Scaredy Squirrel” series and, “Katie Loves the Kittens”, about a puppy thrilled to have three kitten playmates.

The three DVDs in MY FIRST COLLECTION VOLUME 3 – part of the line that supports early literacy skills for the pre- and early reader – also sports Scholastic’s innovative read-along function and features narrators such as Sean Hayes, John Lithgow and Randy Travis. The discs are as follows:

Children will delight as a crazy-eyed chicken and all his panicked friends try to run away from a falling sky in CHICKEN LITTLE…AND MORE ZANY ANIMAL STORIES. The lead story, from Rebecca Emberley and Ed Emberley, is a bold and colorful retelling of the beloved tale; it’s joined by three additional adaptations, all colorful and comical, including “The Great White Man Eating Shark”, “The Three-Legged Cat” and “Dooby Dooby Moo”, along with a bonus interview with the Caldecott-winning Emberleys!

In the lead story on KATIE LOVES THE KITTENS…AND MORE FUNNY STORIES, little dog Katie is so excited when Sara Ann brings home three little kittens that she can’t stop herself from howling and trying to run after them. Don’t they know she just wants to play in John Himmelman’s adorable story? Also featured on a single DVD are three more animated adaptations, including Mélanie Watt’s never-before-released “Scaredy Squirrel” (also seen on Cartoon Network), “The Cow Who Fell in a Canal” and “Roberto the Insect Architect”. Bonus programming also features interviews with authors Mélanie Watt and John Himmelman, too!

BARK GEORGE…AND MORE DOGGIE TALES includes four “tails” on DVD, all featuring adorable doggies! Aside from the title tale, included are “No Roses for Harry”, “Angus and the Ducks”, “Dot the Fire Dog” and a bonus story by Ezra Jack Keats, “Whistle for Willie”!

Wow!  We are AVID readers in this house.  I am a self proclaimed bookworm trying to raise three children who adore books as much as I do and I think we are on the right path.  When I got this DVD set in the mail ans saw some of our favorite books set on the screen I was thrilled.  No, no, no....I am not saying DVD's take the place of books but what I am saying is that if your children are going to have some screen time, it is delightful to have them lose themselves in favorite books when they are presented in this way.  The animation is colorful and fun wihtout being so busy that it takes away from the real star....the story!  I really loved the read along function which is perfect for my pre-reading 5 year olds learning word recognition.
The kids have enjoyed all three DVD's but I think they are paritcular fans of Katie Loves Kittens.  There is nothing better than hearing your children laugh out loud to a favorite book.  Scholastic has done a tremendous job of bringing favorite children's books to life with lovely animations and spectacular narrators.  I have been shopping New Kideo for our next batch of Storybook treasures and, I have to say, my want list is long! If you are looking for true quality picks for the child in your life or what is sure to be a well loved gift be sure to visit www.newkideo.com.  I am a fan as much as my children are!  The other day I meant to do some dishes while they watched a story but instead I felt drawn into the tale as well.  How can you pass up a classic like Chicken Little, animated and brought to life on the screen in such a charming way??  Needless to say, the dishes remained undone!  Bravo, Scholastic for a real winner in My First Collection Volume 3!

I am so pleased to tell you that one lucky RBM will receive Scholastic Storybook Treasures:  My First Collection Volume 3.  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

The Queen: A Life in Brief by Robert Lacey....R&G!

Did you all get excited about the Queen's Jubilee?  I have always been fascinated by the royal family....so glamorous!  There is a new book out now which offers an inside look at the Queen....The Queen:  A Life in Brief by Robert Lacey is out now.  Here is the scoop....

Elizabeth II was not born to be queen. She came into the world on April 21, 1926, the equivalent of the modern Princess Beatrice, first-born daughter of the Duke of York, destined to flutter on the royal fringe. So while Lilibet was brought up with almost religious respect for the crown, there seemed no chance of her inheriting it. Her head was never turned by the personal prospect of grandeur—which is why she would prove so very good at her job. Elizabeth II's lack of ego was to prove the paradoxical secret of her greatness.

For more than thirty years, acclaimed author and royal biographer Robert Lacey has been gathering material from members of the Queen's inner circle—her friends, relatives, private secretaries, and prime ministers. Now, in The Queen, Lacey offers a life of the celebrated monarch, told in six succinct chapters, accentuated by elegant color and black-and-white photographs that capture the distinctive flavor of passing eras and reveal how Elizabeth II adapted—or, on occasions, regally declined to adapt—to changing times.

Here is what my mother in law, The Queen Bee (find here fabulous blog HERE!) had to say...

I am a big fan of British sitcoms, and don't even mention Downtown Abbey to me, off the charts love that British mini-series. (Anxiously awaiting season 3) So I was glad to read a book about the woman who has been Queen of England for as long I have been on the planet. A Royal Downtown Abbey, with all kinds of glimpses of everyday life and scandalous behavior.Lacey is known for his meticulous research so I knew at least I would be reading true accounts of life in Buckingham Palace.
Growing up, Princess Lillibet was never considered for the throne. She grew up privileged but not egotistical. Her life took a drastic turn with the death of her father on Feb 6th, 1952. She would become Elizabeth II, Queen of England. She wasn't quite ready for the job in the beginning, but most feel she has become a true pillar of strength to the British people. This year England celebrates her 60 years on the throne. It has not always been smooth, there have been some bumps along the way. At her side, Prince Phillip, is actually a fifth cousin, 5 years her senior. They met many years before they married at family occasions, and Lacey reveals she was in love with him from the time she was thirteen, maybe before that. I was particularly interested in the Prince Charles/Camilla Shand Parker-Bowles story. Acting on advice from his mentor and "Uncle", Lord Mountbatten, Charles played house with Camilla, fell in love with Camilla, but she was not the one to marry. He needed a sweet innocent girl for that. Enter Diana Spencer.

This book was full of interesting facts about the Queen's life, many of them I had never heard. So, if you follow the Royal Family, this book will hit the spot.
You can pick up this read today on Amazon for just $10.87....

The Secrets of Mary Bowser by Lois Leevan...R&G!

Looking for a great read?  There is a new paperback from William Morrow that is sure to keep your turning pages.  The Secrets of Mary Bowser by Lois Leevan is out now.  Here is the scoop...

Mary is a loving daughter, a quick-witted girl, and a slave to one of the wealthiest families in Richmond, Virginia. When Bet Van Lew, the outspoken daughter of the family that owns Mary, decides to send her to Philadelphia to be educated, Mary must leave her parents to seize her freedom.

Life in the North offers Mary a different kind of education than she ever expected. Carefully keeping the secrets of her own enslaved family, she joins the abolition movement to bring fugitive slaves to freedom. As the nation edges toward war, Mary defies Virginia law by returning to Richmond, vowing to care for her ailing father—and to fight for emancipation. Knowing that slaves are considered incapable of intelligence, she poses as a slave in the Confederate White House to spy on President Jefferson Davis. Together Mary and Bet risk their own lives to smuggle invaluable information to the Union commanders.

As illness and hunger ravage the city, Mary's espionage leads her to deceive even those who are closest to her. Just when it seems all her dangerous gambles to end slavery will pay off, the death and destruction of the war take their greatest toll, and Mary discovers that everything comes at a cost—even freedom.

Based on a true story , written with immense heart, The Secrets of Mary Bowser is an illuminating and inspiring tale of injustice and courage, friendship and war—and of one daring woman willing to sacrifice her own freedom to change the course of history.

My mother-in-law, the well read Queen Bee (follow her awesome blog HERE) got first dibs and this is what she had to say....

The pain that a human can inflict on their fellow man is mind boggling. Can you imagine giving birth and then having that child sold to another person for a life of cruelty and hard work? I can't get my mind around that. Such is the story that author Leveen tells us. Although Mary Van Lew Bowser, born a slave to the rich Van Lew family of Richmond, was able to stay and work with her mother ,Minerva, at the Van Lew mansion. Her father, Lewis, was owned by another Richmond slave owner, so she saw him only on Sundays. She had more of a "family" life than most slaves. Bet Van Lew was the abolishionist daughter of the Van Lew family, and so bought the slaves from her mother and freed them. Which created a dilemma for the parents of Mary Van Lew. Freed slaves had to leave Virginia within one year of their freedom, they could never return. Bet Van Lew sent Mary to Philadelphia for an education, supplied her with living expenses and spending money. Her mother Minerva, stayed behind and kept secret her freedom so she could stay with her husband.
When Mary learns that her mother has passed and that a war will break out between the north & south over slavery, she heads back to Richmond and life as a "slave". She has to keep her freedom secret. She ends up working in the Gray House for Jefferson Davis' wife and she ends up working with her former owner, Bet Van Lew, as a spy for the Union Army.

Leveen has created a rare look into the world of slavery, the Civil War and the toll it took on human life. Real people, in a true story of bravery. This book is well written, and well worth your time.
Sounds like a must read to me!  Pick up your copy today on Amazon....

EasyCanvasPrints...R&G!

I love to take pictures of my children and I am always looking for fun and creative ways to display their photos.  I have a new favorite right now...EasyCanvasPrints!  I just received the most adorable canvas, created from one of my pictures and I am already planning on buying several more.

What is EasyCanvasPrints?  Well, they are fabulous magicians (well...not technically I suppose!) who take your beloved, regular photos and turn them into beautiful pieces of art.  The whole process is super easy. You go to EasyCanvasPrints.com, upload your photo and choose what size canvas you would like.  The hardest part was choosing which picture to use.  I finally settled on one of my all time favorites of A&W.  Easy as can be.  Soon after this work of art arrived....

OK...my camera is awful but I was thrilled with the quality of this canvas.  There is not any glare (that is from my camera) and it looks like a true painting.  I love that EasyCanvasPrints took my special digital photo and made it a work of art.  This will be proudly hung in our new home and I am planning on getting one of Little R and maybe one of our wedding photos done too.  A canvas from EasyCanvasPrints would make a super shower or baby gift.  You can also create signs for special events as well so if you are the host of the shower be sure to nabe a sign too!

Go ahead...find our favorite pictures and send them to EasyCanvasPrints and start your own gallery!

I am so happy to tell you that EasyCanvasPrints is giving one lucky RBM an 8x10 canvas of their own (US only excluding Alaska and Hawaii).  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

Mia Mariu...R&G!

Here at Reviewed by Mom I get the opportunity to try some really amazing products and services.  I certainly have a fun gig here!  While I am often impressed by products (although, to be fair, sometimes NOT so much!) there are times when my socks are knocked off.  I am currently loving a new (to me!) makeup and skin care company called Mia Mariu.

What first impressed me about Mia Mariu was the products.  I was sent a great variety of skin care and make up and I loved everything I tried.  From the mineral make up, primer, blush and lipsticks to the amazing microdermabrasion set  and facial moisturizer, I was hooked.

Secondly, I was impressed by the commitment Mia Mariu has to women.  Mia is a Dallas based health and beauty social selling company that offer entrepreneurial business opportunities for women.
Mia is a Dallas based health and beauty social selling company that offers entrepreneurial business opportunities for women.  The founder, Jeannie Price, has created a fantastic way for women to earn money, meet new people and enjoy success all without sacrificing family.  I am all for companies that give women the chance to succeed.

I was SO impressed by both the products and the quality of the company itself, I became an adviser!  Yes, "Mom" is now officially a Mia Mariu Adviser!  I have never felt so strongly about a product that I have taken on the adviser title but, as I said, Mia knocked my socks off!

I will be sharing lots of products and news about Mia as we go along but today I want to talk with you about two of my favorites.   Let's start with the RestauraCel-C Thermal Microdermabrasion Set.  Here is the scoop from the website:

Discover a new skin!. This fabulous set of two products is your gentle at home alternative to microdermabrasion. RestauraCel-C delivers dramatic skin restoration benefits with our powerful Vitamin C micro resurfacing spheres plus deep thermal action that warms the skin to help open, purify and minimize pores as well as remove dead skin cells aiding in the penetration of other products. Suitable for all skin types, non-irritating, oil-free. Thermal Activator (1.9 oz) / Refinisher Cream (2.0 oz).

This set is flat out amazing. I am a former sun worshipper and my skin tends to look very, very dull.  I have used quite a variety of anti aging type products over the years and none can compare to this one.  The two part set starts with a refinisher cream that you apply over your face and then you add the thermal activator and massage it in circular motions.  This is not super hot or aggressive feeling at all but the results are aggressive!  Right after my first application, my skin looked brighter and was so much softer. I use this 2-3 times per week and my skin looks better than it has in years.  The icing on the cake?  The entire sets costs just $38.50 and it lasts and lasts. I have paid a whole lot more than that for far better results.  I LOVE this set and it has a permanent spot in my skincare regime.  You can purchase it HERE.

Next I want to tell you about the Hydrating Stick Gloss from Mia. Here are the facts...

Our Hydrating Stick Gloss is a revolutionary hydrating product combining color and hydrating gloss in a stick form. Contains Vitamins A, C and E to nourish your lips as well as minerals and anti-oxidants to protect your lips. Hydrating Stick Gloss has a buttery, creamy feel that provides satin softness and long wear without feathering. Sheer hydrating color and gloss with nourishing vitamins and antioxidants provide long lasting satin softness and fabulous wear (4 g).

I tried the lipsticks in Caricia and Encanto and I was thrilled.  It is a true lipstick form but it is not anything like the typical lipsticks I have used.  I have often found lipsticks to be heavy and dry looking but not Mia's Hydrating Stick Gloss.  It glides right on with great color and  is not a bit sticky.  It has a nice glossy shine to it and the color is long lasting without being bleeding.  I like both shades but was partial the summery vibe of Caricia.  These are priced at $10.50 which is less than many drugstore brands and Mia is far superior to anything you can find in the drugstores!  Check out all the available colors and purchase by clicking HERE.

I hope you will take the time to visit Mia Mariu and see what I am so impressed with.  If you are looking for some incredible skin care and makeup at a reasonable price, Mia Mariu is for you.  Please support me in my new adventure as  a Mia Mariu Adviser by spreading the word to your family and friends.  I have catalogs and business cards available if you would like any, please email me at reviewedbymom@hotmail.com and I will get right back to you.  The web address for my store is www.reviewedbymom.mymiamariu.com and I would be delighted if you would pass the word around.

Now for the giveaway!  One lucky RBM reader will win their choice of Mia Mariu Eye Shadow or Lip Product!  Simply follow the Rafflecopter instructions below to enter.

Movies On Demand Prize Pack Giveaway!

We are a busy family.  We are always running from here to there.  Don't get me wrong it is almost always for fun things like play dates or the beach or berry picking but boy do we get wiped out by the end of the day!  I am most definitely  a mom who sees the value in a movie night and I would much rather see a flick curled up at home with my favorites!  Heading to the movies is fun sometimes but I really enjoy our at home movie nights (or afternoons!) and it is great down time for us.  After a busy day on the run the last thing I want to do is go out and rent a movie which is why I love, love , love Movies on Demand.

Movies on Demand lets you get a huge variety of movies from the comfort of your home....love it!  There are tried and true favorites and classics as well as brand new ones.  In fact, you can even get the latest flicks days before they are released on DVD!  How cool is that??  Some of the flicks I want to see with my husband are Mirror, Mirror with Julia Roberts (available 6/26) and Safe House with Ryan Reynolds.  Just add popcorn and it is a date night at home.  Perfect!

Another offering from OnDemand that I want to watch is Jeff Who Lives at home which sound super funny...

Jeff, Who Lives At Home. Dispatched from his basement room on an errand for his mother, slacker Jeff might discover his destiny when he spends the day with his brother tracking his possibly adulterous wife.

To find out more about Movies on Demand and stay up to the minute, follow them on Facebook.  To rent online you can click HERE.  Also, be sure to check out the upcoming Twitter Party on July 5th where you can win some great prizes.  It will all happen at 8pm EST, hashtag #MODSummre hosted by @momspark.  Good luck!

In celebration of a summer filled with great movies, Movies on Demand is offering one lucky RBM reader a Jeff Who Lives At Home Prize Pack which includes...

Dora the Explorer: Dora's Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom...R&G!

Little R, now headed toward 3, is way into Dora.  A&W nearing 6 still enjoy watching Dora the Explorer as well.  When we had the chance to review the upcoming release, (June 26th) Dora's Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom, we jumped at the opportunity.  Here is the scoop...

Nickelodeon invites kids to join Dora and Boots on an exciting aquatic adventure in the brand-new DVD, Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom, featuring Latina superstar Thalia as the voice of a mermaid. The DVD features the title episode and additional episodes from Dora the Explorer’s current seventh season.” Emmy Award-winning Dora the Explorer is an international phenomenon and one of the top preschool shows on TV after almost 12 years on the air. Created by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Media Distribution, Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom will be released on DVD for the suggested retail price of $16.99.

Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom Episode Synopses:

    Dora’s Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom
Dora and Boots are at the beach when they find Maribel, a little lost mermaid, who needs to get back to her mommy (voiced by Thalia) in the Mermaid Kingdom. Dora uses her mermaid charm necklace to transform into a mermaid and turn Boots into a sea monkey. Together the three set off on an underwater adventure through the octopus’s garden, past the ocean rocks to Mermaid Cove where Maribel will have to sing to bring all the mermaids together so she can find her mommy.

    Benny the Castaway
Dora and Boots are getting ready to have a beach picnic with all of their friends when suddenly a bottle rolls in with a wave. Inside the bottle, Dora and Boots find a note from Benny. His balloon ran out of air on the way to the picnic and he’s stuck on Coconut Island. It’s Dora and Boots to the rescue!

    Dora’s Moonlight Adventure
Dora’s taking care of Abuela’s three kitties: Pico, Mónica and Lucky. At Dora’s house, Mami reads Dora and the kitties a story and they all cuddle around their ball of string and fall asleep. When the ball of string rolls out the window and Lucky chases after it, the kitties wake Dora up so she can help find Lucky.

Little R especially loves this DVD.  As I mentioned, Dora is very popular with her right now but so are two other things...Mermaids (check!) and kittens (check!).  She just adores this DVD and it has fast become a favorite.  A&W enjoy it too and none of the children seem to tire of helping Dora and her pal boots outsmart Swiper and finis their missions.  Dora the Explorer is, as always, entertaining and quality viewing for your child.  Be sure to pre-order this latest offering for the Dora fan in your life...

I am so pleased to tell you that one lucky RBM reader will win their very own copy of Dora's Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom! Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

    Uncommon Goods....Review & Giveaway!

I am feeling pretty lucky today because I get to share a really fun and creative site with you...Uncommon Goods.  Have you heard of Uncommon Goods?  It is a site I could spend hours one (really...hours!) browsing all the great items for everyone on your shopping list.  If you are looking for thoughtful and truly unique gifts, you should head directly to Uncommon Goods. Whether it be for baby showers, bridal shower, anniversaries, birthdays or wedding gifts, Uncommon Goods has you covered  To be honest  though, when I am looking I spend only a quarter of the time looking at things for others.  The other times I am looking for me.  I know, I know...shameful but once you start browsing the site you will see why!

I was lucky enough to have the chance to choose two items to review here on Reviewed by Mom and it took me a staggering amount of time for my to choose because I pretty much wanted everything on the website.  Let's just say my shopping cart there is full!  In any case I finally chose this....

Family Vase:  Family is the heart of any home, and this sweet vase symbolizes the love and loyalty shared between parents and children, brothers and sisters. Hand painted by artist Beth Mueller, this charming ceramic milk bottle vase is accented with a simple home and heart and the word "family" for an effect that is touching and timeless. Handmade in Vermont.

    And this...

Recycled Wine Bottle Platter:  Made from 100 percent recycled glass, these wine bottle-shaped platters will provide a lovely backdrop to the cheese, crackers, fruits or vegetables you serve at your next wine tasting party. Each piece undergoes an 8-hour process to emerge as a one-of-a-kind platter. These striking platters also shed new light on candles, give spoons a rest and make for an interesting butter dish. Choose from chardonnay or bordeaux. Spreader included. Made in India and China.

First, let's talk about the family vase. It is adorable.  It is not a huge piece but it is large enough for a small bouquet or a large flower.  It is simple and perfect for a nightstand, dresser or side table.  I love it because it is just plain sweet and it would make a lovely gift for anyone on your list.  I can think of at least half a dozen people I would like to give this to but I will have to order them because I can't part with this one...it is too darling!

Now for the platter.  I chose the brown color and it will look great in our new kitchen.  It is the perfect size for small snacks like cheese and crackers.  It is also a great larger spoon rest.  It is definitely one of a kind and the fact that it is recycled from real wine bottles makes me love it even more.   This would make a super shower or house warming gift.

I am serious when I say that when you visit Uncommon Goods you will be blown away by the huge selection for everyone on your list.  I could post about 100 pictures here but I will narrow it down to two and let you browse on your own!  Here are the next two Uncommon Goods pieces I will be gifting myself...

Fun, right?? Uncommon Goods has something for everyone and for every budget. Be sure to visit www.uncommongoods.com today!

Great Books for Dad from Harper Perennial! Giveaway!

It is crunch time my friends!  Do you have something lined up for the Dad in your life tomorrow?  As you know, I always think a great read is the perfect gift for any occasion and you still have time to hit the book store or send a gift notification from Amazon.  Harper Perennial has two great books out now that would be great for Dad.  Here is the scoop....

The Whore of Akron:  One Man's Search for the Soul of LeBron James by Scott Raab

A native son of Akron, Ohio, LeBron James seemed like a miracle heaven-sent by God to transform Cleveland's losing ways when he was drafted by the Cavaliers in 2003. But after seven years—and still no parade down Euclid Avenue—he left, announcing his move to South Beach on a nationally televised ESPN production with a sly title that echoed fifty years of misery. The Catch, The Drive, The Shot . . . The Decision.

Out of James's treachery grew a monster. Scott Raab, a fifty-nine-year-old, 350-pound Jewish Santa Claus with a Chief Wahoo tattoo, would bear witness to LeBron's every move, and in so doing would act as the eyes and ears of Cleveland itself. Crude but warmhearted, poetic but raving, hilarious, profane (and profound), The Whore of Akron is both a rabid fan's indictment of a traitorous athlete and the story of Raab's obsessive quest to reveal the "wee jewel-box" of LeBron James's soul.

The Ball:  Discovering the Object of the Game by John Fox

Anthropologist John Fox sets off on a worldwide adventure to the farthest reaches of the globe and the deepest recesses of our ancient past to answer a question inspired by his sports-loving son:

    "Why do we play ball?"

From Mexican jungles to the small-town gridirons of Ohio, from medieval villages and royal courts to modern soccer pitches and baseball parks, The Ball explores the little-known origins of our favorite sports across the centuries, and traces how a simple invention like the ball has come to stake an unrivaled claim on our passions, our money, and our lives. Equal parts history and travelogue, The Ball removes us from the scandals and commercialism of today's sports world to uncover the true reasons we play ball, helping us reclaim our universal connection to the games we love.

Don't they both sound great??  I am sure the Dad in your life would think so too!  Get to the bookstore tonight or tomorrow morning or order your copy now on Amazon....

I am so happy to tell you that the publisher, Harper Perennial is giving one lucky RBM reader a copy of both The Ball and The Whore of Akron!  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter.... a Rafflecopter giveaway Pin It
