Education Outdoors: Snipe Hunt Game...Review & Give Away!
The kids and I love being outdoors and being active. We also love games. When I was approached to review a game that included the three above elements I couldn't wait to try it out. Snipe Hunt from Education Outdoors is a hide and seek game for the whole family! Here are the details...
A tradition passed down through the generations, the Snipe Hunt originated as a tall tale told by parents and teens to younger children. Inexperienced campers are told about a bird or animal called the Snipe and the usually preposterous method of catching it, such as running around the woods carrying a bag or making strange noises such as banging rocks together. As children set off in search of the Snipe, their elders take in the antics and try to contain their laughter.
A twist on this fruitless quest, Snipe Hunt is an indoor or outdoor game of hide-and-seek where players try to be the first to find their opponent’s Snipe and return it to its nest. To play, the teams choose an area that will be the Snipe nest and two areas to hide their Snipes.
Each team turns their Snipe on and disappears to find the best hiding place for them. In five minutes the Snipes will begin chirping and their eyes will start flashing red so teams must hurry to get back to the nest before they giveaway the direction their Snipe is hiding. Once both Snipes are hidden, the hunt begins! The first team to return their opponents Snipe to the nest is the winner.
We 100% love this game and it is an almost daily addition to our day. All three of the kids get a kick out of hiding the Snipes (named Smartin and Biela). The boys are almost 6 and little R just 2 1/2 but they can all play this game and enjoy it. The wonderful thing about Snipe is that it can be catered to all age and skill levels. I have been very impressed by how well the kids can hide the Snipes. Some of my favorites? In a watering can and deep in the flower pots. I love the chirping sound and it makes it even more fun and manageable for little ones. Even though this is marketed as more of an outdoor camping game this is a super game for inside and we have enjoyed a few rainy day marathon Snipe Hunt games...so fun! I also really loved the packaging....a live animal box for the snipes to live!
Snipe Hunt can be purchased at Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, Books a Million stores and specialty retailers nationwide as well as the Education Outdoors website HERE for just $24.99. It is worth every penny!
I am so pleased to tell you that one lucky RBM reader will win Snipe Hunt! Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

Summer Trend Alert from Oasap.....Lace Shorts!
I am a mom ( you all know that, right??). The thing is, I love being a mom more than anything else in the world....really, I do! I don't love the stereotypical mom uniform that I often find myself sporting. Jeans and a t-shirt or running shorts just doesn't feel cute to me all the time. When I was chosen to be a Fashion Blogger for a clothing company called Oasap. I was delighted. I needed some cute, trendy clothes and Oasap was filled to the brim with clothing pieces I wanted for my closet.
A trend I have been eyeing has been lace shorts. I just love the look. I feel like it is feminine and classic and Oasap had these which was exactly what I had been thinking of.....
A trend I have been eyeing has been lace shorts. I just love the look. I feel like it is feminine and classic and Oasap had these which was exactly what I had been thinking of.....
I liked the black but I really fell in love with the beige colored pair. At just $31, these were far less expensive than other similar styles I have seen online and in stores. I waited on pins and needles for them to arrive and when they did, it was love at first sight. They are ADORABLE and so flattering! I wore them this past weekend to a birthday party with a simple white blouse and nude heels and I got countless comments on my great outfit (that NEVER happens when I am sporting my jeans and t-shirt "uniform"!). Here I am in my new outfit...
I also tried the shorts with a white tank and cropped jean jacket and that looked adorable too. These are now my go to "cute" outfit staple. You can order your own pair HERE.
Oasap has at least 100 things I want right now. From dresses to more causal pieces to shoes and accessories, Oasap has everything you need to be stylish without breaking the bank.
Stay tuned for more from me and my new pals at Oasap. I still want to tell you about a super cute shirt I received...you are going to love it!
So, tell me, what do you think of my new shorts? If you like them as much as I do, please use the button below to pin this post. Any more ideas of what I could pair these with? I am thinking of ways to bring these right into fall!
*Disclosure: I received the above mentioned product as a part of the Oasap Fashion Blogger program but I was not compensated in any other way for my 100% honest opinion.

Summer Reading with William Morrow...Give Away!
Oh, how I love a great summer read! Warm nights made for sitting on the porch lost in a good book are a real favorite of mine. Lucky for me, William Morrow has a huge list of fantastic summer reads available from some great authors. This summer I am enjoying some summer "me time" in the form of books from Shelley Noble, Meg Cabot and Kerry Reichs thanks to William Morrow. Here are three reads that are perched next to a tall glass of iced tea just waiting for me to dig into....
What You Wish For by Kerry Reichs
Having a baby is . . . complicated.
Dimple knows. She's a successful actress who is turning forty—though her agent and her resume insist she's only thirty-six—and she figures it's now or never. Certainly it's not a good time for an intriguing director to show up at her door with a great script.
Eva, fabulous agent to the stars, doesn't want kids—and never wanted kids. Why is her decision so damned hard for everyone else to accept?
When Maryn was undergoing treatment for cancer, she and her husband both agreed to have embryos frozen. But that was way before their divorce and her remission—and now she's single and childless, and caught in the middle of a controversy she never saw coming.
The traditional and nontraditional couples desperate for a baby . . . the adoptive parents . . . the single mom . . . the two who want nothing to do with parenthood. . . . This is a thoroughly modern story of the pursuit of family in all its forms—and of five very different ways of getting there.
Size 12 and Ready to Rock by Meg Cabot
Summer break . . . and the livin' ain't easy!
Just because the students at New York College have flown the coop doesn't mean assistant residence hall director Heather Wells can relax. Fischer Hall is busier than ever, filled with squealing thirteen- and fourteen-year-old girls attending the first ever Tania Trace Teen Rock Camp, hosted by pop sensation Tania Trace herself—who just happens to be newly married to Heather's ex-boyfriend, heartthrob Jordan Cartwright. But the real headache begins when the producer of a reality TV show starring Tania winds up dead . . . and it's clear that the star was the intended victim.
Grant Cartwright, head of Cartwright Records, wants to keep his daughter-in-law (and his highest-earning performer) alive. So he hires his oldest son, black sheep of the family and private investigator Cooper Cartwright—who just happens to be Heather's new fiancé. Heather should leave the detecting to Cooper. But with a dorm full of hysterical mini-divas-in-training, she can't help but get involved. And after Tania shares a really shocking secret with her, this reality suddenly becomes more dangerously real than anyone ever anticipated.
Beach Colors by Shelley Noble
While renowned designer Margaux Sullivan was presenting her highly praised
collection during New York City's Fashion Week, her husband was cleaning out
their bank account. A week after he disappeared, the bank foreclosed on
Margaux's apartment and business.
Suddenly broke, betrayed, and humiliated, Margaux has nowhere else to turn to but home: the small coastal town of Crescent Cove, Connecticut, where she once knew love, joy, and family before she put them behind her on the climb to fame. When she's stopped for speeding by local interim police chief Nick Prescott, Margaux barely remembers the "townie" boy who worshipped her from afar every summer. But Nick is all grown up now, a college professor who gave up his career to care for his orphaned nephew, Connor. Though still vulnerable, Margaux is soon rediscovering the beauty of the shore through young Connor's eyes . . . and, thanks to Nick, finding a forgotten place in her heart that wants to love again.
But as she continues to work on a bold new line that will get her back into the game, Margaux realizes that soon she will have to make the most important, most difficult decision of her life. . . .
Go ahead and lose yourself in a great book this summer thanks to William Morrow. Each of the above books can be purchased on Amazon (clicking on the title link for each above will take you there) as well as all other book sellers.
I am delighted to tell you that William Morrow is giving one lucky RBM reader a copy of each of these great summer reads (Beach Colors, Size 12 and Ready to Rock and What You Wish For). Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter.... a Rafflecopter giveaway Pin It

The Labyrinth by Thomas Weck and Peter Weck...Review & Give Away!
A&W got very, very excited earlier this month. For the past year or so, they have been HUGE fans of a series of books by Thomas Weck and Peter Weck and, to their absolute delight, we received the newest book in the series, hot off the press! The Labyrinth was a fast hit in our home! Here is the scoop on the latest from the Weck's
Princess Belinda Bean takes the throne as Queen and Ruler of Beandom. All
are happy except the duke, Mean Ol' Bean, who wants to be the king and ruler. He
lures her into a magic labyrinth from which there is no escape. L. Joe Bean, one
of her subjects, discovers the plot. Will he be able to save his queen? What
will happen to Mean Ol' Bean? The message of the story is that cleverness wins
the day. In the series entitled The Lima Bear Stories, each has a distinct
personality that shines through in every story. While the children have no idea
what twists and turns the story may take, they come to know the characters and
have a pretty good idea of how they are likely to act in different situations
and settings. Each story carries an important overriding message (such as
courage, tolerance, honesty), and we believe that knowing the characters creates
a better understanding and appreciation of the message.
I am going to say what I have said about all the Lima Bear Stories. My children LOVE them. I always start out with a little bit of a "hmmm....." with the books. I mean, little bears that look like beans fighting off other evil bean bears? Well, let me tell you, it works. Peter Weck and Thomas Weck have creative minds that cater to the those of young children. They have created another engaging story that manages to captivate my two boys all while sending the message of using your head in a tricky situation. I love how the Lima Bear books can convey life lessons without being so preachy that they turn the kids off. We now proudly own all four of the Lima Bear Stories and now my boys are asking when the fifth will come out. So, please Mr. Thomas and Mr. Peter Weck, please write another story featuring these little bean bears! We are anxiously awaiting their next adventure! Pick up your copy of The Labyrinth today....
Songs in the Shade of the Flamboyant Tree...Review & Give Away!
I have an original CD and book set to tell you about today, Songs in the Shade of the Flamboyant Tree: French Creole Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes. This collection put out by Sugar Mountain features music from tropical islands and it has been a fun way for me to talk about world cultures with my gang. Here is the full scoop from the press release...
The Secret Mountain is proud to announce the release of the second book-CD in their international collection of soothing songs for family listening. Songs in the Shade of the Flamboyant Tree: French Creole Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes will be available for the first time in North America this summer.
The Secret Mountain is proud to announce the release of the second book-CD in their international collection of soothing songs for family listening. Songs in the Shade of the Flamboyant Tree: French Creole Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes will be available for the first time in North America this summer.
Produced in Paris under
the direction of Chantal Grosléziat and Paul
Mindy, this collection of songs features adults and children singing in
French Creole, a language spoken in several dialects by more than seven
million people. The songs and performers hail from the tropical islands of
Haiti, Guadaloupe, Martinique and Reunion Island, all reflecting the rich oral
heritage of children’s music in those countries. These sweet tunes are perfect
for the quiet times of family life, while adding energizing Caribbean rhythms to
the day.
Through Laurent Corvaisier's colorful tunes and splashy
illustrations reminiscent of the vibrant flamboyant tree, this collection of
lullabies and nursery rhymes celebrates life’s passages and various island
rituals. Lyrics are reproduced in the original French Creole dialects and
translated into English, followed by notes on the origin and cultural context of
each song.
The accompanying CD features 30 traditional songs
recorded with indigenous acoustic instruments and exquisitely performed by
women, men, and children.
When I first flipped through the book I was taken in by the vivid colors and the depiction of island life. The book along is rich. When you look at it with the music it is an explosion. One would think the CD would be all soft and lulling because it is lullabies and, while it IS relaxing, it is so alive with culture and musical flavor it would truly be hard to fall asleep to. My son "W" turned to me about 10 minutes into the CD and said "I just love this mom". So do I. The book has the translations to the songs and rhymes but, to be honest, it did not even matter to me because the voices and instruments were so captivating that I found I did not care that I did not always understand what was being said! This CD did a wonderful job of opening up the door to speak about different cultures. My husband I have been to both Martinique and Haiti and my sons wanted to know everything about the people there. A asked "did you hear these songs when you were there?".
I think this set is a gem and it gets two thumbs up from the entire Reviewed by Mom household! We are already talking about which CD from the The Secret Mountain series of music from around the world! Chicken Soup for the Soul: Messages from Heaven....Review & Give Away!
You all know by now that I really enjoy the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. Today I want to share a very special one with you....Chicken Soup for the Soul: Messages from Heaven. This book was so incredibly touching. Here is the scoop...
101 Stories Miraculous Stories of Signs from Beyond, Amazing Connections, and Love that Doesn't Die
101 Stories Miraculous Stories of Signs from Beyond, Amazing Connections, and Love that Doesn't Die
When our loved ones leave this world, our connection with them does not end. Death takes away their physical presence, but not their spirits, and we often sense them after they have gone. Sometimes when we see or hear from them, they give us signs and messages. Sometimes they speak to us in dreams or they appear in different forms. The stories in this book, both religious and secular, will amaze you, giving you new knowledge, insight and awareness about the connection and communication we have with those who have passed on or those who have experienced dying and coming back.
I am still getting through this book because it is a little hard for me to read right now. As I have mentioned briefly, I lost a special person earlier this month so sometimes I am feeling a little too raw to read some of the parts. Mostly, I am comforted though. These real life accounts of connections to those who have gone before give me great hope and help keep my faith alive. The stories, while often sad to read, are really about the power of love that goes beyond this life. The stories will bring something very special to anyone who has experienced a loss. I highly recommend this book to anyone grieving. To pick up your copy visit Amazon....

Super Why: Around The World Adventure....Out Now!
THREE NEW LITERACY-PACKED
SUPER WHY EPISODES COME TO DVD IN
“SUPER WHY: AROUND THE WORLD
ADVENTURE”
"SUPER WHY is a breakthrough preschool series from Out of the Blue Enterprises designed to help kids ages 3 to 6 with the critical skills they need to learn to read, as recommended by the National Reading Panel (alphabet, word families, spelling, comprehension and vocabulary). The standout, imagination-stimulating series focuses on the adventures of four fairytale friends who transform into reading-powered superheroes. The special DVD compilation is the first to feature Woofster, the new book-loving puppy pal with Dictionary Power, who made his tail-wagging debut on the popular series in fall 2011. The new title also features two episodes, “Around the World Adventure” and “Naila and the Magic Map,” which premiered during the special “SUPER WHY Around the World Adventure” on-air event, June 15 on PBS KIDS. The “AROUND THE WORLD ADVENTURE” DVD made its debut June 19, 2012.
In addition
to its trio of fun- and learning-packed
episodes, the “SUPER WHY: AROUND THE WORLD
ADVENTURE” DVD features bonus materials, including interactive games,
music videos, printable activity and coloring pages, as well as
valuable resources for parents to use with their budding super readers at
home."
We were lucky enough to receive a review copy of this brand new DVD from Super Why and not only were the kids thrilled but so was I. Super Why has been popular with my children for several years and I am glad. I think this is one of the best televisions shows on the air for children. It is a fun way for children to learn with engaging characters catchy tunes. It came as no surprise to me that all three kids loved Around The World Adventure. It was filled with fun adventures which taught the kids geography, new words with their meanings, sounds and rhyming. The kids really liked Woofster the new character as well.
As always, Super Why is a big hit with me AND the kids! This is television you can feel good about sharing with your child. Pick up this new DVD today on Amazon...

StoryCorps...Review!
Today I want to share an absolutely remarkable DVD...StoryCorps. If you have
never heard of StoryCorps, let me give you some background from their website....
StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives. Since 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 40,000 interviews from nearly 80,000 participants. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, and millions listen to our weekly broadcasts on NPR’s Morning Edition and on our Listen pages.
We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, strengthen and build the connections between people, teach the value of listening, and weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that every life matters. At the same time, we will create an invaluable archive of American voices and wisdom for future generations.
In the coming years we will build StoryCorps into an enduring institution that will touch the lives of every American family.
Amazing concept, isn't it? I just really love this. We all have a history and it is valuable and important and certainly worth a listen. When I received the opportunity to review the new DVD featuring some of these wonderful stories I was thrilled. Here is what the DVD entailed...
StoryCorps’ original animated shorts series features some of our best-loved radio stories. Now they are available on DVD!
The series includes conversations between a boy with Asperger’s syndrome and his mom; a feisty grandmother regaling her family with tales from her youth; two Brooklyn characters remembering how they fell in love and learned how to let go, and so much more. Plus bonus material from the animators!
This DVD is so touching. I found such value in the stories. There was love, loss, learning and lots of memories. I loved every second of it. I was particularly touched by this story of Danny and Annie. It blew me away and it still does even though I have heard it about ten times. It is a true lesson in love. Have a listen and perhaps grab a tissue....
The DVD is worth this segment alone but all the animated shorts are just as wonderful in their raw truth. This is a must see and can be picked up on Amazon today....
*Disclosure: I received the above mentioned DVD for purpose of review but I was not compensated for my 100% honest opinion. Pin It

The Voluntourist by Ken Budd...R&G!
I often find myself lost in works of fiction but there is occasionally a really fantastic non fiction book that wins my heart too. Such was the case with The Voluntourist by Ken Budd. I could not put this book down and delighted in being a passenger on Budd's amazing journey. Here is the scoop....
VOL·UN·TOUR·IST
n. 1. A guy who attempts to save the world in an attempt to save himself.
2. Someone who can only do it two weeks at a time.
When Ken Budd was thirty-nine, his father collapsed after eighteen holes of golf. Ken and his wife raced to the hospital—but it was too late. In the weeks that followed, as grieving friends revealed how his father had changed their lives, Ken started questioning his own life—and admitting, after years of denial, that he and his wife would never have children.
And then, still struggling with grief—his grief at losing his father, his grief at not being a father—Ken received an e-mail with the subject line: "Katrina Relief Volunteer Opportunities." He signed up. He went to New Orleans. And he kept volunteering: Costa Rica, to teach English; China, to work with special-needs children; Ecuador, to study climate change; the West Bank, to assist refugees; Kenya, to care for orphans. His goal: to find purpose by helping others, one trip at a time.
Wry, funny, and heartbreakingly honest, The Voluntourist will linger in your mind long after you've turned the last page.
Wow. Can you imagine? I can certainly imagine the questioning life's purpose part but having the guts and strength to go on such a fantastic journey? Not so much! So, because I am not so gutsy as Ken Budd, I absolutely relished being along for his ride. He is a masterful writer, bringing the different cultures to life and describing his experience with honesty and humor. I loved his style. I applauded his selflessness and it really has prompted me to look at my own life and what I can do. I won't be trekking to Ecuador but I will be taking Budd's advice and living life to its' fullest. Thank you Mr. Budd! To be truly inspired, pick up The Voluntourist by Ken Budd today...

Howard B Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship....R&G!
A&W have just begun to play t-ball. It is pretty much our first foray into sports and I was surprised about how winning just sort of automatically takes center stage when in sports even at this young age. I want the boys to try their best but I want them to know winning is definitely NOT everything. When I received the book Howard B Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship the timing could not have been bettter! Here are some details about the book as well as some series background...
This book introduces 4-8 year olds to concepts like respect, camaraderie, teamwork and the pleasure of playing sports and games for the fun of it. The tenth book in the award winning Howard B. Wigglebottom series. Tips and lessons are included.
The We Do Listen Foundation (the non profit behind Howard B Wigglebottom books) has created books, games and more to help children resolve conflicts, stop bullying and feel good about themselves. The site www.wedolisten.com has a host of great information for children and parents so be sure to pick it out.
A&W really enjoy Howard B, Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship. It portrays Howard being a sore loser, his coach taking him out of the game for not being a team player and Howard's realization that winning isn't everything after all. This book sends a great message for all children and I would highly recommend it. I am eying the other books from the series because this one was so well done. Be sure to pick up a copy for the team players in your life today...

A warm June evening, a local tradition: the students of Nantucket High have gathered for a bonfire on the beach. But what begins as a graduation night celebration ends in tragedy after a horrible car crash leaves the driver of the car, Penny Alistair, dead, and her twin brother in a coma. The other passengers, Penny's boyfriend Jake and her friend Demeter, are physically unhurt - but the emotional damage is overwhelming, and questions linger about what happened before Penny took the wheel.
As summer unfolds, startling truths are revealed about the survivors and their parents - secrets kept, promises broken, hearts betrayed. Elin Hilderbrand explores the power of community, family, and honesty, and proves that even from the ashes of sorrow, new love can still take flight.
The Queen Bee's take.... What makes a book a "summer read"? For me it needs to be a lighthearted book, big print, easy reading, not too much soul-searching needs to be done, preferably written about life at the seacoast. Hilderbrand writes these types of books. The fact that she lives on Nantucket Island and writes about Nantucket Island is a big plus for summer reading. Although this book starts out with a tragic auto crash, resulting in the death of a teenage girl, all the other "have to haves" for summer reading is in this book.
Zoe Allistair is a master chef living on Nantucket with her twins Penny
& Hobby. Both were about to enter their senior year in high school. Their
dad had died before they were born, so they were raised by Zoe, a single
parent.
Jordan Randolph was editor of the island newspaper, owned by his family for
decades. He was married to Ava, who had been a recluse since the death four
years prior of their infant son. They had a teenage son, Jake, who happened to
be the childhood boyfriend of Zoe's daughter Penny.
Zoe & Jordan had a secret. They had been having an affair for the last
few years and were in love. But Zoe knew Jordan would never be able to leave his
sick wife.
On the night of graduation, Penny, Jake & Hobby swing by to pick up
their overweight & outcast friend Demeter Castle and head to the beach for a
party. Demeter, who is a closet alcoholic, had stolen a bottle of Jim Beam and
brought that along in hopes it would make her some fast friends.
When it was time to leave the party, Penny, who did not drink was visibly
upset, insisted on driving home. They all took off in Jake's Jeep and as they
headed down the road, Penny put her foot on the accelerator and drove right off
the dunes.
Life on the island would change forever............
Add this one to your beach bag, a good "summer
read".

Good People Everywhere by Lynea Gillen...Review & Give Away!
I have a new bedtime (or any time!) book for the kids...Good People Everywhere by Lynea Gillen. This book is an absolute gem and a positive read to remind children that good people truly do surround us and that it is up to each of us to become a good person too. Here are the details....
A soothing story to help children become mindful of the beautiful, caring people in their world. Each page delightfully unfolds with endearing examples and vibrant illustrations to inspire children to grow into grateful and giving people. A wonderful way to send your child to sleep, ease their fears and develop a sense of gratitude.
Includes two bonus activities to encourage children to recognize the good people in their lives.
The first page of the book reads "Today, in neighborhoods all over the world, millions and millions of people are doing very good things". Each page after that depicts how different people from different walks of life bring good to the world. From teachers teaching children, to dancers bringing joy to their communities, to farmers delivering fresh food to grocers, to doctors delivering babies, to a friend helping another when he has fallen with a skinned knee, the list goes on and on depicting all the different ways you can find good. The book ends with "Today, millions and millions of people will do very good things. And so will you. I wonder what you will do?" Boy, do I love this book and the message it delivers. Lots of times children are told to be good but, what exactly IS good anyway?? This book describes how being kind in our day to day lives spreads good far and wide and it encourages children to think about the things they do that help make them good people. Good People Everywhere has sparked lots of fun and meaningful conversations for the kids and me. It is a nice way to remind our children (and ourselves!) that the "little" things sure do add up to a whole lot of good! I also want to mention that the illustrations (done by Kristina Swarner) are lovely with soft lines and colors which are just perfect for the flow of the book. Pick up your copy today....
I am so pleased to tell you that one lucky RBM reader will win a copy of Good People Everywhere by Lynea Gillen. Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter... a Rafflecopter giveaway Pin It
